my brother roadied (sp*?) for a while and usually invited me to the concerts with a backstage pass. The best one was the Bloodhound Gang..they're great on-stage, not to mention great guys in general...they're hillarious

Backstage at Hootie on new years eve 2001 was good... U2 last time around was good... jimmy buffett is always great...

best event I've ever been to was game 7 of the World Series with the Yankees getting their asses kicked on the last pitch of the last inning by the D-Backs.

I'd have to say any taproot show they've had. They're always into fan interaction at a more perosnal level (going in the crowd with no security) and they do what the fans want. Amazing guys with an energy filled live set.

Any show with security is a bad show.

Any show with a barrier between the band and the crowd, bad.

Any show with more than 200 people, bad.

Any show at a venue with no bar, bad.

No merchandise tables? Gay.

Whether you like him or not...

1. Bruce Springsteen live is one of the greatest shows you will ever see. Last tour with the E Street band I flew out to see him on the opening night of the tour om the Meadowlands, Southside Side Johnny showed up and his crew, crowd didn't sit down for three hours. After, four encores, they turned the lights on and everyone is exiting and out comes Bruce screaming "Where you going?? does another 30 minutes....too sweet.

2. Another great live show is Prince- can't say I like all his music but he has more talent in his little finger that most artists. Puts on a house rockin live show, too. Pretty much goes berserk.

3. Twenty years ago got to see Steve Ray Vaugh and he was backed up by legendary rockabilly band The Blasters. Who just went back on tour by the way...the Blasters stole the show, and Stevie just sat back and watched these human rockabilly machines tear the house to shreds. It was insane as hell. Just about as hard drivin, house rockin, stomp your feet till they hurt music ever invented. Any Texas will attest to The Blasters unbelievable shows.

4. Sex Pistols opening tour was great, music sucked, but was really the first time I saw real punkers get after it...first time america saw real punks, really. Sid was still alive, John Lydon was young.

5. Bunch of Stones shows before they were burned out....

worst show....Roy Buchanon...passed out drunk on stage.

it may just be the memory of the more recent ones but in rough order..
the Cure, sydney 2000.
You Am I at the "last shout" closing gig at the Annandale.
Pavement and Beck at the Goldcoast in 96.
the Eels Sydney 2001
Gomez Sydney 2001
Smashing Pumpkins Brisbane '96

late 80's paul simon, and early 90's u2 and pearl jam were great being the first big international bands i'd seen.. brian wilson, dinosaur jr and myriads of local bands like big heavy stuff and screamfeeder were great too. infact i'll add the gig that BHS and screamfeeder played at the annandale.. fuck that was good. lots of beer.. lots of loud rock.. they only got left out because of the sheer amount of times i've seen them whereas being in a backwater of the world when the bigger bands come out it seems more exciting.

great disapointments at having missed :
janes addiction and QOTSA a month ago.

I think it was '94

Sepultura
Fudge Tunnel
Fear Factory
Clutch

I went there mainly to see Sepultura and came away a huge fan of the other three bands as well......

close second:
Fight, with Rob Halford
Suicidal Tendencies
Metallica (highlight moment was Jason Newstead singing "Man In A Box")

sadly, the down note was Alice in Chains cancelled (the reason for Jason singing "Man In A Box") and Candlebox filled in....but, after some intense moshing to Fight and ST...I needed a break anyways ;)

Man that is a tough question there have been so many great concerts.
Metallica with Guns And Roses was great,
so was AC/DC each of the 6 times I saw them.
Pink Floyd was great, Tragically Hip was awesome.
Man I could go on forever , so many great concerts ... Shit I have probably forgot 50 % of the concerts I went to in my teenage years, too much abuse

Gang Green around 88 or 89 in Melbourne FL

I saw Metallica in Missouri in 1986, shortly before Cliff died. Wasn't the best show I've been to, but one of my fondest memories of high school.

Almost every concert that I have been to has ended up in a fight. Sort of like a bar fight where everyone is involved. Flying objects and the like. The only one that wasn't was a regae concert staring Sizzler in 01

TMBG at Sheffield Uni, Siouxie and the Banshees at the Sheffield Octagon, Rammstein at the Roseland, and The B-52s at Dartmouth College were all also quite good shows.

I saw the Black Crowes on acid. I mean I was on acid, not them. At least I don't think they were at the time.

Isle of Wight 1969 with Dylan it was just a party in the field.

1970 with Hendrix was good, stoned some of the time so don't remember a lot.

Cream's farewell at the Royal Albert Hall 1967

Stepenwolf at the Royal Albert Hall

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young at Wembley 1970 or was it 71.

GWAR w/ The Meatmen opening...must have been '93 or '94

Air Supply '86...a couple lines of coke before and 3 totally hot babes getting akll gooey during the show....well, ok, the concert sucked ass, but the "after party" was insane......

The Corpse Phuckers
Indian Rape
The Pedo Junkies

1985, abandoned warehouse, totally insane show, not even really a stage setup...just all of our equipment, 50 rowdy redneck kids from Wyoming, a ton of drugs, a bunch of booze and no parental supervision or security (except a couple bikers dudes)...I was getting so into playing that I ripped the fingernail out of the index finger on my right hand by slamming my bass strings as hard and fast as I could and I smashed my mouth and bloodied my nose on my mic stand...my drummer got his head split open by a bottle that was thrown by our guitarist...you've never seen anything like a guitarist and drummer trying to fuck each other up and still trying to play their instruments...by the end of the night, there was bllod, piss, alcohol, broken glass, trash fucking everywhere...it was nuts...and through it all, my band even managed a decent rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire" at triple speed........

So many good ones in the past. The two that stand out to me are:

NitzerEbb
Played at San Jose State about 13 or 14 years ago..don't remember the date.

NineInchNails
Warfield Theater in SF...i think maybe 12 years ago?

Been so long.. but those two were fun.

The reason turned out to be that the venue told the band they couldn't do their pyros so the band refused to go on stage. You would have thought SOMEONE would have checked that before a few thousand fans were standing outside in the cold. Never got my refund either

REM - 1995 Madison Square Garden.

Placebo - 2002 - one of the 3 soon to be 4 times I've seen them

Wheatus - 2001 - I don't care what people think, I went because there was nothing better to do and it turned out to be an excellent gig.

Ash - 2002 Reading Music Festivle - WOW, the won me over.

The Hives - 2002 Reading again - not my type of band but they really know how to take the audience by the balls.

The Smashing Pumpkins first gig in Portugal, Cascais Bullfight Arena. Billy said it was one of the 2 best shows ever. The other one was in Chicago.

I went to lots of other gigs, but nothing comes close.
