anyone beginning to see serious issues with wmp 9?

we've gotten a hundred emails today (out of the blue) all saying that wmp 9 is not working for them trying to view mpeg1 (even though everything was fine before today).

wtf?

I've heard so many people bitching about problems with WMP9 that I never bothered to install it. I'm sticking with WMP8 for now.

Hey Quiet on March 19, 2002 you posted:
"haven't been on a concorde before, but definitely something i'm planning to do. i've heard it's a sweet experience..."

And then on November 15, 2002 you wrote:
"i also took my dad on the concorde for a new years celebration a couple of years back. that was extremely cool."
"1st class rocks. but i still don't think it's justified. the concorde flight i took - that was crazy. but still not justifiable."
"the concorde is the most amazing plane i've ever been on. my dad has always been obsessed with jets, and always wanted to go supersonic. so we went on a 3 hour flight to no where (ended up in the same place we took off from). very cool. very expensive"

So have you or have you not been on the Concorde, or was there a New Years celebration between March & November???

God it's a fucking piece of crap. MS claimed at one time they were going to stop supporting basic authentication (what pretty much every paysite uses, FYI) - but they backed off of that..

Anyway, I installed it because I needed to, for the new WMEncoder stuff.. God it fucking sucks.

8 was so fucked for me. 80% of the time it would refuse to play the shit if it was on my C or D drive. I had to put everythign on the stupid E drive to even have a chance for it to play. I just "upgraded" to 9 and at least it plays the crap no matter where it is on my computer.

I've heard from a lot of people having trouble using WMP9 in WinXP. I myself run Win2k and have never encountered any problems, with any supported filetype.

Just tell em how to uninstall it

I downloaded windows media player 9 about a month ago. It could hardly play any movies, it would freeze my computer (win2k), and ruined my video enconding capabilities... Had to format C:\, I think ill stick with this version 6.4

I think you are right Quiet, it must have been an auto update that got us. I noticed an update was ready yesterday morning but I haven't tried to play anything yet. I expected this to happen sooner or later. We will see if this is the case in a couple of days.

i didn't think that MP9 could be uninstalled..? at least, the beta could not be uninstalled. the real worrysome part of this issue is that many of our target newbie surfers might/will end up w/ this installed on their systems one way or another, so it would be a good thing if we can figure out a solution to tell users..

How long did you search to find something like that ? Just wondering, it must've been REALLY important to you.

I hate when the upgrades to products are big bubbly candy raver looking programs, with no option to revert back to the classic less obtrusive GUI.

The problem is that it didnt support HTML authentication.

See http://chat.amateurmasters.com/publi...iew.cgi?T=2277 for explanation.

They also had the address that can fix the problem.
