We have a new Balinese site in HD. Its scary to see what you would think are 90 meg files turn into 500meg or above...it'll be ok.

MP4 baaabyyyy! Most efficient format out there. But even the i3 processor seems to handle it well with standard Intel graphics. I haven't had a single complaint about bad playback, but I was definitely bracing myself for the onslaught!

I'd look into x264 for encoding H.264 into MP4 files, which should help your file sizes and allow for easy streaming and/or downloading for playback on any modern PC.

PS: If you want to use ffmpeg to encode your videos, you'll need to build ffmpeg with the x264 and AVC libraries, plus a bunch of others like qt-faststart etc. If you're using unix, search for something like "ffmpeg x264 insertOShere tutorial"

High Definition on todays Internet is a lie. The bit rate for real HD is too high.

Also Resolution and bit-rate are only two factors in many other factors that effect quality which are largely ignored as they cost money and need skilled personnel.

true that, the real spec is over 1 Gbps. I have seen some that go so low that the video itself is just starting to show artifacts...
