Question to the smelly English fuckers on gfy
This summer i want to visit your country for a few days. Been to England many times before but this time i want to see the countryside.
I guess i'm gonna rent a car. Can anybody suggest me some really beautiful places. Just small villages, forrests, lakes, anything like that. England is quite big and i won't be driving from London all the way up to the north. So anywhere within 500 miles from London would be nice. Or if you can suggest me a real nice place where i can go by bus or train or something. Anything really without having to travel for 12 hours. Thanks. |

I live in Arundel, it is in the countryside, 1.5 hours from london by train.
   it's in the South Downs   It's 30 minutes to Brighton too, which is a very cool city. |

York: It was the capital of england. Its also very nice. A pain to park though (but its a pain all over to park in the uk).
Harrogate: Its nice in summer. Otley/Ilkley: Small and nice (ps, if you do go email me if you want and i will show you around). Ilkley Mooer is a nice walk on a hot day. Tip: Do not drive on thje M1 as its boring. Use the A1 its more interesting and you can stop places. London: Do not drive around, use the tube. Its hell to drive (I do mean Hell). Whitby: Do not miss. Its like going back in time. Its wonderfull. If you go on a goth weekend its fun (drackula was suposed to be burried there). Blackpool: I do not like it. Its vile and got tatty. Its like 1970's england. Full of OAP's going on holiday before they die. However in winter its worth going for the lights. Scotland: Its not that good realy. Cold and full of represed people. However they love yanks. But to be honest its not much. Wales: Its like being in a country with retards. You will find half the signes are in native welsh (that no one even speaks). Nothing to see. Cold and damp. Worst still they may sing.

You must try and make it to the Cotwolds it is beautiful and Oxford is very close by also which is also a very nice city.
 The Picture is of a little town called Bourton-on-the-water really pleasant little village to visit

East Sussex, but in all honesty, you can drive out of any town in Britian and end up in pretty little villages within 20 or so miles, even in built up places like Essex. (Its even possible to find villages inside London, where the city has grown around them - but they arn't that great looking anymore.)
Drive around Kent and hunt for Oast Houses.  Every county in Britain has an abundance of castles, and just about every village has ancient churches going back often as far as 1000+ years old. You can also find ancient earthworks, henges, forts, ect ... just by throwing a stone and seeing where it lands!

London to Ilkly/Harrogate/York est 4 hours drive.
The Lake District from London est 6 hours drive. Use a gps or you will get lost. One thing to remeber if that some places are a pain to get to and make take longer than you think. For instance Ilkly to The Lake District is only about 60 miles, but its via the countryside on roads with speed limits of 30mph and they are thin and windy. So its a pain to get to. One tip is try to avoid peek traffick. About 8am to 9am in the morining and 4pm to 6pm afternoon the roads get very busy and in some towns you moving at a snail pace. Also you may have a shock how expencive fuel is, so if your going to hire a car get a small one otherwise you will be paying a fortune for fuel. Trains are expensive too. Also remember we drive on the correct side of the road (left). The only reason you drive on the right is due to to france. they drove on the left but nepolian wanted to insult england so he changed it to the right.

York is a must.
A tip. If you find york train musum, drive slightly out of york and its residential, you can park free and easily there. You have a lot in york to see. Its very nice on a summers day. But go early as there is lots to see. If it was me I world go morning to york, then drive to harrogate (nice shops and rather posh), then drive to ilkly (have tea at bettys). Then go for a walk on ilkly moor. If you have time you could drive out into the countryside to the waterfalls were they filmed robin hood price of thefves then drive back to see the abby, then back home.

I like Hanbury Manor in Ware. Great country club with a nice rural atmosphere, yet not far from London. The train is right down the road too.

Don't go anywhere near Leeds or indeed any part of Yorkshire, DVTimes lives there.
Try Cornwall. Very touristy in parts but amazing coastline, great beaches if you can find ones that aren't crowded, and the locals just love foreigners* *I might have lied about the last bit
