ATLANTA -- The NBA players' association and the league have agreed to expand the first round of the playoffs to a best-of-7 format starting this season, ESPN Insider's Chad Ford reported Saturday.

The players' association officially approved the change in format early Saturday. The league will make the official announcement tonight at a news conference in Atlanta.

Until this season, the first round of the NBA playoffs had been a best-of-5 format.

I think the NBA setup is weird to start with. They play a whole season just for practice, apparently, and THEN they have this lengthy elimination process when they could just announce a winner at the end of the regular season. Don't you basketball lover see they have just figured out a way to create an artificial second season and wring even more dough out of you?

nba is a waste. The fucking playoffs are longer than the season. Who needs to see the #1 seed kick the #8 seeds ass four times. Its all about squeezing out every last cent.
