                  As stupid as a lot of what Rush says is, I'm just not a big fan of teaming up to shout people down, get them fired, etc., over saying stupid things.

                  The best antidote to idiotic speech is to respond to it with more intelligent, more persuasive speech, or to highlight the idiocy of the speaker by ridiculing him, satirizing him, or something along those lines.

                  I'd prefer that we leave Rush right where he is, and mock him viciously when such is called for, rather than move to silence and rhetorically martyr him by drumming him out of the broadcast booth.

                  Put another way: people I disagree with have a right to be entertained, too.

                                                  As much as I hate Rush, I agree with the posters here who don't agree with the mob mentality to shut him down.

                                                  If we're advocates for free speech, then he should be allowed to say whatever ignorant, misinformed, boneheaded comments he wants. Shutting him down (and supporting the shut down of his show) essentially advocates censorship if the person is saying something you don't agree with.

                                                  This country has turned into a bunch of pussies who are actually taking away the freedoms of everyone because they don't like what someone else says or does. Fight the morons by not supporting those who endorse them, not by censoring them.

                                                                      Yes I've listened to him plenty over the years. Sometimes on purpose sometimes by accident. The added beauty of free speech is I can tell his advertisers what they should do. It appears I wasn't alone.

                                                                          All that's true enough, but IMO all people should be free to say pretty much whatever comes to mind, be it brilliant, foolish or anywhere in between.

                                                                          So long as a speaker's words don't cross the line into something actionable from a legal perspective (and even then, I think a very high legal standard should be applied when determining whether speech is defamatory), I'm inclined to let them keep saying it, particularly if their continued ability to express themselves also tends to undermine the agenda they are trying to advance. ;-)

                                                                          Naturally, if the people who sign Rush's paycheck decide he has become a liability larger than his ratings can justify, then it is absolutely within their rights to hand Rush his walking papers; I'm just not of the mind that I need to join the chorus of voices trying to push him out the door.

                                                                          It's not really "censorship" for people to tell Rush's boss that he needs to be pulled off the air, btw. That's all just a group of people exercising their First Amendment rights and expressing their opinion to a broadcasting company, and Clear Channel has no obligation to give these anti-Limbaugh people what they are asking for. In the case of true censorship, what you would have is the government telling Clear Channel that they have no choice but to take Rush off the air.

                                                                          There is a huge difference between true censorship and what this petition drive represents; I just happen to be against both. I have no issue with other people signing that petition, it's just not for me.

Don't support those companies that advertise on his show. Fuck, AOL pulled their advertising, but did they say he should be shut down? No, because they understand what free speech is.

                                                                              Pissing and moaning, signing petitions online is a cop out for the true way to voice your displeasure while still supporting free speech. Signing online petitions allows the lazy to still support those who support Rush (because they may like their products), while simultaneously bitching about Rush and those who support him.

                                                                              Nut up and stop supporting those who endorse/support/advertise with him. That's how you handle things like this.

                                                                              Fuck, Kirk Cameron just said a bunch of stupid shit about gays. Does that mean he should be banned from acting in his shitty christian movies? No. But it does mean that you can voice your displeasure with him by not seeing his shitty movies, thereby letting his producers, distributors, etc. that you don't support his views.

If I am going to buy ad space on a TV show or radio show (or magazine or whatever) in a way I am aligning myself with that person and I am putting money in their pocket which gives the appearance that I approve of whatever they are doing. If that person or show suddenly takes on a tone that you feel doesn't really reflect that of your company you should be able to pull your money out of their show.

I don't agree with a lot of the things he says, so I don't listen to him.
                                                                                                                                      Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
