Ebay is really insane, the sellers fees are crazy plus paypal hits you as well. On top of that you don't get paid unless you provide a tracking number and it's delivered or there is positive feed back. Paypal changes their mind with me every other week on whether or not they will hold my money. What many don't realize is they are getting in some cases a week long interest free loan, that might not seem like much on your 1 item but over a couple of million they are constantly sitting on a cash pile.

i have given up here fees are too high when i was in school in the uk i was making about 200 pound a month from ebay buying and selling from swap markets here and know that is impossible

Just got a nice laptop to throw linux on for $60 on ebay :)
|
I stopped selling there last year. Bullshit after bullshit, they don't give a shit about the sellers. Its 99.99% in favor for the buyer when something goes wrong.

I fucking love ebay... and yes you can still make a lot of money there selling digital goods and services. Sometimes its more fun than checking my AFF stats.

Ebay really pissed me off and I refuse to sell there ever again after 10+ years of selling successfully.
I sold a baby playpen, barely used. Packed away totally clean it was hardly touched. Set up the auction really low free shipping and it took off. The asshole who bought it realized for like another $20 they could have gotten the same item new and when they received it made up total lies about the condition of the item. Ebay didn't require any proof. This person got their money back, my paypal account was debited by ebay into the negative, and the item was returned and now is in bad condition from poor packing and they kept part of it and ebay did NOTHING. I was pretty much scammed by a buyer, and am surprised they even sent it back with the crazy messages they sent me after they received it. They claimed they went to the hospital sick from the mold on the item. LOL And I called them several times, made threads here about this! I had not been selling much for a while and was totally blown away how hard ebay fucked me over and appealed to this lying piece of shit who fucked me over on my auction. The item is now sitting in my garage becoming ruined, when if this mother fucker hadn't ran up my auction and regretted it, I might have actually gotten $50 to $100 for it, but they big almost to $200 and the stupid thing is that price new. NOT MY FAULT. I really don't even see how I would have protected myself in this situation, Ebay totally fucked me dry and hard. Then all of a sudden you owe them money and they threaten you. NEVER AGAIN. lol edit. yeah... digital goods might be the future of ebay, as this mail shit out and get fucked over isn't working. lol |

I have a Pro Merchant account on Amazon. I pay $39.99 per month for that. It's worth it, because without it, you can't get the Buy Box, and you really want to have that. It amazes me that with the buy box I can have competing sellers with lower price + shipping, and I still get the sale. I don't know what the fees are outside of my categories, but overall, it doesn't seem to be much more than what Ebay+Paypal fees are. It's a little higher, but you can charger higher prices as well. It's a totally different buyer dynamic, or at least that has been my experience. From a seller perspective, I would 10,000,000% rather sell on Amazon than screw around with Ebay. That said, I emply the CYA method on Ebay, and have never lost a dispute. Knock on wood. |

I pay $17.99 per month for that. Amazon now ties in to Stamps.com. If you have a stand alone account Stamps.com like I do, you do not pay additional fees on top of the postage cost to use it. You just log in Amazon, print your packing slip for the order, and buy postage at the real cost. Amazon deducts the postage cost amount from the proceeds of your order, so you aren't paying for it upfront. If you don't have a Stamps.com account, there is some fee per postage purchase, but I can't tell you what it is. I didn't really investigate it, as I have a stand alone store too, and need the Stamps.com account to print postage for it. |

If you leave a seller a negative review that is SOLELY based on the product, then it gets removed from the seller's feedback. Now, if you leave a review for me that said "The product sucked and her shipping was terribly slow", then they will not remove the feedback, because it contains a review of my services. But a seller who gives otherwise good service doesn't deserve bad feedback because someone decided that they didn't like the fit of a sweater. |

They can request that a seller review that is based solely on a product be removed, but Amazon has to review it, and if it is only for a product, then Amazon removes it. The seller can't do that themselves. I don't know why your reviews wouldn't have gotten posted. I've written lots, and never had one not show up. Sometimes they are instantaneous, and sometimes they are pending review for a few hours. |

Current TRS / Power Seller here..
We won't be complying with the new forced Ebay TRS requirements... This will backfire on Ebay. In short this is Ebay's way of stealing the 20% discount from its TRS. I'm pretty sure thats the goal as no one with a brain can see otherwise how this can help.. So in short, they found yet another way to bleed the drying up turnip. Basically we see it as a short turn loss, but a future positive.. And it will kill Ebay. Everyone is correct that Ebay is trying to be Amazon... That is obvious... Ebays market is NOT RETAIL however, and will never be retail no matter how much they try... Ebays marketplace was the auctions and rare used like stuff.. They have grown and a huge part of their place is retail now.. but with the increased fee's this will blow up in their face.. What will happen is prices will rise... There's not many making a living off there, they make some money but very little profits... Giving stuff away to keep stuff moving for a buck here and buck there... Raising prices will create problems... because the sales will drop to these sellers... Online is shifting to retail (idiots in control) This price increase will mean goodbye to mom and pop online shops... and give real retailers buying power and cheaper prices.. thus destroying online shopping till something new evolves... Here's the new system... If you don't enter a tracking number within 24 hours.. even if you are part of the TRS, you won't get discount Final value fee's on these sold items.. lol .. To be a TRS, you must put in 90% of your tracking numbers within 24 hours.. Our business can't do this.. we have 20% of our business as dropshipping.. The dropship is a great service, and we are such a big seller, we ship all orders by 2am and overnite shipping!! for one flat rate fee of $9.99 no mater what you order.. That is an incredible bargin.. the problem being, we dont get the tracking number for these places right away.... so these orders actually get delivered before we can issue a tracking number.. Sure i can call and get one.. but you think im going to call and bother another company for a tracking number 5 times a day? for 25 different orders??? they are going to ignore my calls shortly :D So this means that we will start inflating our prices and make customer pay for items plus $3-5 to make up those lost fee's... We are bled so much we already can only match Home Depot, etc prices, but they offer free shipping where we can't.... and we seem to be working for ebay as they make more per sale than we do... However, with ebay and Amazon, strongly pushing UPC codes and non duplicate listings.. Our personal website with google product feeds, has been steadily rising.. We are now making more traffic through google and other product sites, because our store prices are now lower than Ebay/Amazon stores we have.. because of their crazy 10-15% fee's charged.. Because all i have to do is enter in a product UPC code... There is no future for Ebay and Amazon, as my store will soon be listed as #1 on the shopping links and ebay/amazon below.. that link to me.. i win all 3 items... but i make more as I dont pay these fee's to ebay/amazon when come direct to me.. So, yes, we get frustrated, and sad to see this pathetic shift... But in the long run.. Ebay helped put themselves outta business.. could explain why they are milking it.. they see the light... what they built destroyed them... |

we hit the 50,000 Power Seller mark not to long ag0

Problem is that just like in this porn business, on ebay there are always people willing to work for less income.

Well I listed a dozen items on amazon, 1 sold so far, Seems amazon fees are way more than ebay
Product charges $58.08 Amazon fees $-9.53 Shipping charged $5.49 Charges for shipping services $-2.82 So item sells for 58.08 plus 5.49 for shipping gross amount of 63.57 Amazon charges 9.53 fee, shipping is 2.82 plus a 7 cent fee so 12.42 cost So amazons overall fee on all profit including shipping is 15% Same transaction on ebay would be about 11.5% ebay and paypal fees Big difference. |
