What do you think? I think, well, get him down to $1000 and then another $1000-$2000 dropping an engine into it = nice car. That is the best color in the history of earth!

If you drop another northstar in it expect another blown motor shortly thereafter. These are a dime a dozen because no one can keep them running. Landrover Freelander is just as bad.

They're notorious for head gasket issues.. but they're tough as hell. They're actually made to be driven the fuck out of. And whatever they put with them for transmissions, the god damned things are bullet proof.

If you timesert or better yet use a stud kit when you do the head gasket you won't have a problem again. Except in the rare case where the metal just sucks (but a good tech will know that right away as soon as he starts drilling- you should get metal shavings, not dust)

Some things are pretty tough to do on these engines. . but they're tough

I just bought an old truck I'm slowly restoring, a 1990 Silverado Stepside. Engine repairs are done, interior completely refurbished, and now I need a new exhaust and then some minor paint touch up. For less than $5k I have what feels like a brand new truck. I'm a computer geek, not a mechanic, so it's been a learning experience at the same time. In fact, I'm already looking forward to my next project.

If your into such things or want to learn, go for it.
