had fun running around and chatting with everyone who made it to after party last night.

made some biz contacts and look forward to these type of events in the future.

redlight is a lame interface, way too limited, but seems like redlight and utherverse gave you all a good build, the virtual space was pretty damn nice.

I wandered around in a few other areas. Again, the avatars seemed primitive, but the build was nicer than I expected.

Being a basic clearly blows. No sex, no private messaging, shitty looking newb avatar, limited clothes and faces.

But, having virtual conventions is something that could explode. Especially when all these webmaster types realize how incredibly easy it is to get virtually laid.

somebody should rent a quarter sim in second life and do a convention there. The place would be crawling with chicks attracted by the porn angle if you promoted it right. And people might be stunned at how easy it is to do business with a decent avatar and interface.

oh, and with decent voice chat and private voice chat too.

for the record, im an old school mmorpg pker from ultima online, siege perilous where true PVP in gaming was born. Garriot was on to something with in game "player justice' and what spawned from it was the greatest thing ever to happen to gaming, PVP (player versus player) some of us chose not to just play against players, and chose to player kill which is the most challenging side of Ultima Online (you can no longer enter towns guards kill you instantly, once your character is name is red you are murderer etc) and this pirate hat basically to let everyone know i am a pk lol

ive recently thought of opening one of my old UO accounts for fun and go pk some newbs for old times sake but im far too busy for gaming these days,...

There are many things that are "missing" or seem to plain just "suck" as a basic member,

Not exactly sure what you mean by the interface though, did you explore all the buttons and settings? or just the "D" I had you click to jump to where everyone else was at?

For me, as a comparison, hands down I pick Redlight (RLC) over Second Life (SL) for the interface (controls) and built in interactions, as well as the sheer subtlety of the "ads" (outside of the convention world mind you lol)

SL wins on the graphics but only for right now, RLC is in the process of launching a complete new build that will features many new things that even SL doesn't have, but as for the graphics end, once the new system rolls out I'm told that the avatars can look as real as my content (and that my models could be used!) right now the avatars look like The Sims due to the low polygon count they are running.

another thing to keep in mind, as a basic member IF someone was nude or having sex in front of you, you'd see them fully clothed (and not ness the clothes they WERE wearing, it's something that is a double edged sword for me, cause in a way basic do not KNOW what they are missing (but the sex/nudity block is there as sort of an "age verification" thing, you don't see "porn" (sans pictures in certain areas) until you age verify and then upgrade.

There was talk last night between some of us webmasters, and mini conventions similar to this weekend (but much smaller) will become a reality in the near future, I say we can do monthly networking / Biz meetings / parties in a virtual environment, I myself have a few venues already built inside of RLC and larger ones being built over the next few weeks.

Wrapping this up, today is the last day of the convention and is dubbed "Fan Day" doors open at 11am PST Seka takes the stage at 12pm PST, if you have not made it out yet you still have this one last chance to do so.

I was a bit freaked out by Sabrina Deep at the Starlet Lounge -- between the room and her live cam stream, it made it seem like you were living in a doll house and this giant was looking in the windows at you...

There's things about it that might be frustrating at times, but the seemingly high percentage of female characters and general naughtiness (especially for VIPs) is cool.

I know the wife and I are better dancers there lol

Virtual fucking has it's limits, but it has some good qualities too. It's a bit like phone sex with strangers - sometimes unbelievably awful, sometimes surprisingly hot.

All kinds of reasons. Server limits, one hears, but I don't know. Everybody is waiting for the next big interface revolution.

Could happen this decade.

Doing business in a virtual envirnment is basically a matter of where you make your avatar stand and how you talk. It's pretty easy - except in redlight, as a basic, you are forced to talk in open chat, where everyone can read what you say, unless you are talking to a paying member and they invite you to private chat.

To give an example of the difference between secondlife basic and redlight basic - this is what I look like under my secondlife basic account.

It's a bit harder to take a good pic of yourself in redlight - redlight has terrible cam controls, and things you take for granted in secondlife, like remote camming, complete POV control, teleporting, flying, and easy searching and movement, i couldn't find in the redlight basic.

Doesn't mena they aren't in the pay version, I just dunno.

all of that is in redlight (minus porting) for basic...

use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out

hold your left click button and move your mouse left or right to turn around

to take a screen cap hit the - key

to loose ALL menus hit the = key

to kill the names over heads hit F9

you can also customize your avatar basic or paid member by clicking on the shirt icon top right of your screen

And this is me as a basic in redlight - with the least goofy look I could find in teh avatar editing function, which has very few options.

You have very little cam control in redlight so a closeup of yourself seems impossible - but maybe it is and I just dont know.

decent stream tho - but it's stuttering a bit - and the avatars take a while to rez, tho the build itself appears almost instantly, a pretty decent rendering engine for objects.

well, I'm a fucker, not a fighter, but they got all kinds of weapons and spells and fighting shot in sl. I'm not expert in it but people do fighting and dying shit here for sure.

I've been in so many virtual parties and clubs - I like the house clubs - that to me this is just lag lag lag - the real action will start as the party is ending.

when you been to as many as I have (virtual parties and real ones) you get bored easy.

well, I get bored easy anyway, one of my failings. so, yeah, negative, you got my number. I'm not part of the normal world.

if this was real I'd be doing the same thing, looking for the few people still talking something interesting, waiting for the party yakity yak to be over and the picking up to start.

you should be having business talk sessions in teh evening too - in teh virtual it doesn't make sense to have everything during the day. it's a fluid timespace.

If you wanna talk biz you gotta be pro-active though, seek out who is up for it in the room, when you picked up a few maybe go somewhere else to talk or go VIP and open a group chat with /join WebmasterTalk or something... with /join Whatever_Name_Here you can open a group chat for more privacy.
