A coworker had great results with a combo of the patch and zyban.

I havent tried either one but he was able to quit from a pack a day relatively easily.....

good luck!

Tried zyban and it didn't work for me. They have a new cig out called Quest, 3 stages

1 Is a normal or lower tar
2 is half that
3. is no tar I think.

Getting anymore that the cost may make it easy to quit

I get really bad symptoms when I quit.. I've tried to quit 2 times "seriously". Both times I got the sweats, shakes and really bad anxiety. It drives me fucking bonkers and I got to cut that shit out.

I tried zyban but that stuff had some really strange side-effects... didn't sit well... reminded me of the extra-curricular activities of years past (look at the pretty colors) and kept me awake all hours of the day and night.

Tried the patches too. Helped, left a nasty rash but I could deal with that.

I'm not too terribly worried about cost at this point- maybe I'll find those Quest cigs. thanks for the tips guys.

How To Quit Smoking:

The simple 2 step method

Step 1: Hold the chemical engineering please.

Next time you go to get smokes, take a look at that "TOP" or "Bugler" tobacco in the pouch or in the can (yes, just like the bums get), they usually come with rolling papers so you'll be all set.

I hear some people whining "But I can't roll!".. Don't worry, you'll learn pretty damn quick if you want to get your fix.

There are numerous reasons for "switching" brands and going to roll-your-owns when your wanting to quit.. lets list a few:

A) You don't like your brand anyway (or you wouldn't want to quit)

B) There are less additives and chemical engineering efforts put on "roll-your-own" tobacco. You'll actually have a chance to ween yourself from roll-your-own, as opposed to the name brands who are famous for engineering your cigs to spread the nicotine all around your body making you crave it more.

C) Because your lazy -- Do NOT buy a roller & DO NOT preroll smokes. Make yourself roll one every time you want one. This will help build your desire to quit.

C) For the visuals -- In 30 to 90 days look at your fingers. Pretty no? Your fingers should have a nice orangy black tint (nicotine stains) where you hold the smoke -- after only 30 to 90 days, FROM JUST HOLDING IT. Now imagine what your lungs look like after the xity x YEARS that you've been smoking.

(Non-Smoker Vs Smokers lung)

When you see how fast it will stain your fingers, this should also help you increase your true desire to quit smoking.

Step 2: Patch Up!

(If you've tried the patch before -- read this anyway)

Now that your actually READY to quit smoking, go get yourself 2 boxes of nicotine patches. If you smoked around a pack a day, get BOTH boxes (30 days worth total) as the ~7mg patches.

You'll probably be worried you wont get enough nicotine or whatever, but remember the idea to get OFF the nicotine here, not redirect the addition to another delivery system.

Now, here is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember when on the patch. There _will be_ times when your stress level raises and you feel like you need a smoke. But just calm yourself & breathe because you are getting nicotine, but for whatever reason your stress level spiked higher than the nicotine supply & you feel like you need more. So calm your ass down & in ~10 mins or so you'll be cool again from the nicotine being cranked out by the patch.

The key thing to remember is you ARE getting nicotine, you don't need a smoke at that point, you need to relax & work through the stress on your own. Because very soon your going to need to handle stressfull situations without nicotine in any form ;)

And NEVER think about giving in, because once you start contradicting what you told yourself you were going to do -- it's over, you'll be smoking within minutes.

Note: The patch makers would like you to go on a ~10 week program...but fuck that. You should only need 4 weeks tops or your a weakling and don't really want to quit : )

Good Luck

I was smoking a pack a day last November. I decided to change to xpressos but the body had a nagging longing for the cancer sticks. So I dipped the filter end of the ciggie in water for about 1/2 second, blew on it to spread the water through the filter, and lit up. Seems 90% of the toxic waste was caught but a satisfying smoke cloud remained. After about 10 such smokes my body learned that smoking behavior didn't tweak the reward center anymore. Which is to say the addiction+habit went up in smoke in 2 days. I haven't touched a cig since.

If I decide to get hooked again, I know how to get unhooked.

I stopped smoking last february, cold turkey pretty much, locked myself in the house. I was up to 2 packs a day, 3 packs if partying. I smoked for the first time since in Vegas for Internext and I was able to give it up again as soon as I left the airport.

Just takes discipline (mind you I'm not extremely disciplined person) and a true desire to be free of this evil slavemaster. Sure it's fun to smoke but once it has a hold on you, you are nothing but a willing slave.

There is hope! You can give it up, good luck =)

My advice: forget the patch or any other stuff like that, it just prolongs the agony and it's like quitting twice for more money. Just go cold turkey, lock yourself in the house for a week, shut off the phone, tell your inlaws to not bother you for a month and keep telling yourself you the truth: YOU REALLY GET NOTHING OUT OF SMOKING! Think about it, what are the pros?

I stopped smoking two months ago, looked at my wife and baby and found all the inspiration I needed. *Feel smug*
