How much traffic before you upgrade?

How much traffic do you think you should get before you move your blogs from shaared hosting to a vps or better?

and do you think that that type of hosting affects how big your site can grow?

of course you will need bigger better server to handle more load and bandwidth on your site if your only getting a few hundred visitors there would be no point in switching until you are getting up to 50 to 100k

do you think it effects the growth of a site? If I was on vps now would it grow faster?

it depends on the shared hosting

google does penalize for slow loading sites so being on a slow server will hurt.

When it becomes slow, it's time to make it fast. When you run into limitations that prevent you from doing what you want to do, it's time to get rid of those limitations.

No. Being slow does. Also being hacked or cut off from too high of usage does.

Don't go looking for a solution without a problem. Do watch for problems. Do take note of issues that are time bombs. For example, if your shared host uses suexec, you know you'll get hacked before long, so you'll change to something more secure. Contrast that with switching from a perfectly good shared host to a poorly managed dedicated server. That would be an expensive downgrade. That would be the result of applying a "solution" without a problem.

VPS is not better then shared, it actually puts more stress on the server. But you should upgrade your CPU and RAM use or go dedicated around 20k daily uniques
