Do you use .xxx domains?

Are they worth registering/buying? Pros/Cons?

Been wondering about it for a while...

I bought one - For the keyword - I couldn't resist !

As for using it, I never got round to doing anything with it, so I slapped it into hosted tube.

So far, it has received ZERO TRAFFIC or Video Views ! lol

I have 4, one is on a hosted tube as well and gets under 100 uv a day. Two others I just through scripts on, so it's too soon to tell. The last is sitting idle. The domain is just like any other, I'm sure. It's what you make of it...I'm going to put some real effort into at least 1 to see how it plays out.

Registration time will be the real test of course. Do I renew or not? I'm undecided at this point.

I bought 1, but have done nothing with it. I stopped development when I seen them advertising on the piratebay.

That's strange, I saw them take down two domains for piracy, yet advertise on piratebay, lol. Wtf man, you never know what to believe.

I heard all the scare tactics and thought they might be right, then I heard ICM's side and thought the scare tactics were just that, now I just think it's like anything else, business as usual. Some scare you because it's in their interest, some convince you because it's in their interest, no one gives a shit about your interests except for you, and that's all that matters. Make your own decisions and fuck what everyone else says. If my .xxx domains work, I'll be happy and proud of the work I did to make them work, not the extension. If they fail, I'll let them drop and move on knowing it was my failure and I'd rather risk failing again on a cheaper extension, lol.

Nope, saw a few great ones available and passed. I won't support them, if it turns out to bite me in the ass later it's a chance I'm willing to take.

The short answer is: no.

They potentially silence adult by forcing it into an easily walled off ghetto.

As far as scare tactics, have you seen ANY of their ads? Their current marketing is absolutely nothing but scare tactics.

If they are reasonably intelligent, they will lobby to make .xxx mandatory for any site that's "not appropriate for children". I say that not because they are evil (though they may be), but because they stand to make tens of millions from doing so. One could say they would be stupid not to lobby for such a law. For that reason, I don't want to fund them.

I believe it makes sense for them to do this as well. You're right, the profits would be insane. This is another reason why I bought 4 domains, just 4. So that I have some decent domains that could make a lot of money if this were to happen. All my .coms would go to shit (perhaps), adapt or die scenario.

Here's one time line

buy xxx domain - build site - promote - xxx domain sellers decides you need to pay more to renew - you do after hearing scare tactics - countries begin to block anything with xxx - members don't care and will still search for dot com websites - you go back to dot com

It's extortion at its best

You forgot one more ... or they decide they don't like that you put blue in your website and they hold your website hostage until you pay them $$ in penalty fees.

Actually thought of another ......

Some guy reported that your website is (insert whatever here). Although the result of our investigation was inconclusive you must pay the fine of $$ for our time and effort. If you don't pay $$$ (whatever fees they come up with) in the next ten day you will lose use of your domain.
