No I get the vids straight from the supplier in europe. I need the converted.

wethoney, if you have just a few videos to convert, search for European immigrant communities in your area, there may be a small shop there since they send/receive videocassettes to/from relatives in Europe.

If you have more videos to convert, buy a video signal converter, see this site:
http://www.tenlab.com

or search for more on SEs (PAL to NTSC), or try to convert them directly to .mpg / .wmv formats.

i have the same problem going the other way, i need to switch from ntsc to pal

here is the problem in difference

different frame rates pal is 25 fps and ntsc is 29 fps

pal has more scan lines than ntsc so a higher resolution

and finally they both have different color encoding

50 hz to 60 hz

these are your options

you can buy a quality pal to ntsc encoder .. big $$

you can buy a multisystem VCR that decodes either pal or ntsc i think they run a couple hundred bucks

or you can take them to a video studio and have them converted which is good if you have only a few probably about $30 for 2 hrs

there are a couple places on the net that do it cheaper.
but call and talk to them before you go mailing them your tapes

There's a place in Cerritos that does it ptretty cheap I think. That's where my wife and I go to convert PAL. ICQ me if you're interested and I'll find out where exactly it is for you.

You really are better off going to a post house that offers standards conversion or a standards conversion service. They have dedicated hardware that does it in real time.

The other way is to find a rental house that will rent you a PAL deck and a "scan converter". If you have a lot of tapes, that may be a cheaper way to go.

Hi, I can do both ( PAL ===> NTSC or NTSC===>PAL for either Betacam Tapes, SVHS or DVD.
For other support, I would have to check .

I use a Tenlab converter with TBC ( the top of the line) , A Sony Betacam PAL Player, A Panasonic SVHS PAL player, and so on.

Stay away for " cultural communities" equipment which uses a Samsung 5000 player converter. the quality is just not there.
