How is this any different from programs like Limewire or Kazzaa? Isn't P2P easy to track so going after the people sharing is a lot easier than going after those on bit torrent?

So maybe I am misunderstanding how it works. With a torrent you connect to a whole bunch of different peers all at once and download small bits of the file from each of them. With a program like limewire you connect to just one peer and download the whole thing from them. Is that now how it works?

Right, I guess what I was getting at is that wouldn't it be easy for lawyers/law enforcement to track who is trading files on the system and go after them? Maybe they can't take down the servers, but if they start suing the users you know people will stop using it.

Yeah that worked out great in the past right?

Theres a reason they were going after the sites, it was the only way to make a dent.

You are correct. They have sued a ton of people and won a ton of settlements and it had zero effect on slowing piracy down. All I am saying is that if they are effective in shutting down some sites and score some big wins in court they can set some legal precedence and that might make going after users a little more effective and simply. If they just start hammering the users of this this program right out the gate they could create a culture of fear surrounding it and keep it from getting popular.

Likely, however, that won't happen and these companies would be better served to just seed tons of fake files to water the system down and make finding what you want on this software difficult and frustrating.

Seems there are holes.

Get yourself on the list, search for people pirating your content, confirm beyond the IP address they are sharing, crucify them on the wall of a court.

Governments can also use this as an excuse to police the Internet, users and what ever else they want. Governments act slowly and then over react. Don't blame them, blame the people creating the problem.
