I don't get your frustration with my post. There are idiots on bikes, and there are idiots in cars. The title of this thread, is "People on bikes are douchebags"

Apparently, you accept that all people on bikes are douchebags.

I don't disagree that you see a lot of douchebags on bikes in San Fransisco. Im just saying that not everyone on a bike is a douchebag.

I don't run redlights and stop signs, but I do ride on the sidewalk. I like to keep my distance from motor vehicles. People in cars will throw shit at you as well. Maybe that was one of you assholes in this thread. A few months ago, I got a got a can of soda thrown in my direction. It almost hit me, but hey, that's what I get for riding a bike and not smogging up the air you like to breathe.

I'm huge on bicycling. I'd say I'm a bicycling enthisiast... And in years past I rode several hundred miles per week. What I'm saying is that vast numbers of bicyclists think no laws apply to them. Sometimes it costs them their lives.

If you live in a metro area, you see it too. Do you ignore it? Sounds like you're advocating it.

If I can video tape an intersection and capture 1000 riders in a single day blowing a red light at full speed... Would you think it was a problem then? That's the magnitude of the problem around here. It's not my imagination and I'm certainly not a hater.

If you just need or want someone to bitch at, Im sure it would be very easy for you to find someone else on here to do that with.

You ride, I ride. I would also say Im a bicycle enthusiast. Im not advocating what you think I am.

Lets just put it in easy terms for you....

a douchebag is a douchebag. Wether they are on a bike or in a car, on a plane or on a train. We all know there are plenty of douchebags right here in this forum and I would bet half if not most would have a heart attack if they even got on a bike or walked a flight of stairs.

I even agreed with you that you probably got a shitful of douchebags on bikes in san fran.

The title of this thread is "people on bikes are douchebags" which is bullshit. Not everyone who rides a bike is a douchebag. Are you a douchebag? Im certainly not going to admit to being a douchebag. So that makes at least 2 people that ride bikes are not douchebags. You could be a douchebag, but lets just say for the sake of this conversation that you are not. That debunks that the comment that "people on bikes are douchebags".

Now if Fris would have said, "85% of people on bikes are douchebags" then that would be more easier to accept, however I would then be interested in how he comes up with those numbers. Is it just the people he sees? Maybe he saw some muscular dude in shape riding with a hot chick and thought... "dag nab it, that guy is a douchebag!!"

Fuck, give it a rest.

People in cars are douchebags. Hows that? People who ride motorcycles are douchebags.
Ive seen lots of motorcyclists ride between cars, and would you believe getting stuck on the interstate them pesky motorcyclists have the nerve the ride between and around cars? The NERVE!! lol

If your on a bike, and you blow through a red light and you get hit. Your not only a douchebag, but you might also get to leave in a giant douchebag, with the words "coroners office" on it.

This thread should have read, "people on bikes who blow through red lights are douchebags" that would have been more socially acceptable to the non douchebag people on bikes.

thats not the point, its the bikes that go through red lights, etc.

if you ride on the road at least follow the rules.

this is a false assumption... most don't, if most did their would be an epidemic of bicycle deaths going on all over, which there isn't. If they are driving erratically? Dangerously? Stupidly? They deserve what they get, nobody here is denying that, but most do follow the rules you just clump them all together as one for some ignorant reason.

as for staying on trails... some people don't ride mountain bikes oddly enough. You ever ride a road bike on a trail? it's not pretty... Some people like to go places on their bikes, not just ride in circles.

arock10 02-08-2012 07:25 AM

Seems there are a lot of pissed of people in cars stuck at red lights or in traffic in this thread. I'd rather be two blocks further down the road then stuck stopped at a light with people in huge cars feeling like that

It's illegal to ride on the sidewalk. I have never got a ticket for riding on the sidewalk.

I prefer to ride on the sidewalk. I purposely avoid routes that don't have sidewalks.
Fuck, I won't even ride on some of the bike lanes that are right next to traffic.

I would rather pay a ticket for riding on a sidewalk then buy the farm riding on the street.

same here. i gladly get out of the way of any pedestrians but there are too many crazy fuckers/drunk or high fuckers out there on the roads. you never hear of someone getting run over in the sidewalk. i'd rather get a ticket for being on the sidewalk than become roadkill.

rowan 02-08-2012 07:48 AM

I ride rarely (like seriously, a couple of hours a year for the past 3 years) and I've already had one near miss. Was riding along a suburban street, minding my own business, when a car pulled out from a side street across my path. I managed to brake in time, ended up only about a foot from their door, and my back wheel was up in the air.

I agree there are stupid cyclists, but it's the stupid drivers I'm more worried about... you do the right thing but get hit by an idiot, you're going to be seriously injured, or dead. That's why I hate riding on the road.

John-ACWM 02-08-2012 10:38 AM

Some are idiots but so are some drivers.

Matyko 02-08-2012 02:22 PM

Riding a bicycle in the traffic of Budapest on a sunny autumn afternoon on acid = priceless
In the last ten years I converted a few of my friends from car-fanatics to bicycle-maniacs. On one of my best childhood friends this conversion went so well he sold his 2nd gen Camaro [almost flawless condition, rarity around here] and was riding bike instead. He moved from Budapest to Dublin and than San Francisco and he Still does not own any cars, but rides bicycles.

This is one of the best inventions of humanity, period.

A couple pedestrians are killed every year in San Francisco by bicycles on the sidewalk. :2 cents:

You think it's about animosity of efficiency. LOL

Tonight I was driving through Oakland on a major street coming back from Target at 7pm. Sun had gone down, and it was completely dark out. I'm turning right, stopped, signalling. I look to my left, and I look to my right. Nobody there. I hit the gas... suddenly there's a black bicyclist wearing all black, no reflectors, no light, no helmet going about 30mph down the wrong way.

I just about came in contact with this person, as they swerved around my car.

And then not 1 minute later as I was driving down the same street, there was a bicyclist wearing all black riding full speed down the center of the #1 lane, without lights... again, going the wrong way... looked like they wanted to play chicken.

Again I had to slam my brakes hard and do a quick merge right to avoid hitting this person.

So... uh... you think this behavior pisses people off because they get though traffic quickly?

I think if you were in my situation you'd have run one of these guys over. And then someone here would want to ridicule you about being envious of their ability to make it to the next red light. :1orglaugh

Sure!

you could easily change this thread title to just about anything.

how about...

"people on motorcycles are idiots"

guys on Ninjas doing 110 between lanes are the real issue not someone on a side street on a bicycle,... no one bicycles on freeways, yet motorcyclists do 100mph every minute of the day ,... lol

Actually Some People are stupid, no arguing that at all and within those stupid people Some ride bikes.

Funny thing is I think it's stupid to ride a bike on sidewalk where pedestrians are walking, and some time with small animals.

Bikes belong on the road and it is to the popo to start giving more tickets to bike riders not respecting the code of the road.

I've found this to be the truth. I can't believe I used to take a car to drive down to the store a mile away. Three months later, I'm in the 220's, and in better shape than I was a decade ago (260lbs). All just by getting my lazy ass on a bike.

or maybe he doesn't want to risk getting hit by a car. is the only other option to not ride a bike at all? get real.

ruff 02-10-2012 06:58 AM

The trouble with bikers is that they are whiners. They get run over all the time here in Miami, because the roads are full of drivers that learned to drive on a burro. They do whatever they want and then cry about it. Why would you ride in traffic when there is a perfectly good sidewalk full of fat tourists to ride on? I'm a biker, just not a stupid biker.

arock10 02-10-2012 02:56 PM

So gfy is:
10% of gfy cyclists follow the rule of whatever goes so long you dont get hit
10% of gfy cyclists are more the spandex wearing country cruising but still fully legit cyclists
40% wished all cyclists would die
40% weigh 300lbs and ride their bikes 3mph on the sidewalk to pick up their 40oz and pack of cigs

You act like riding a bike is more dangerous than driving a car - it ain't.

If you are too much of a pussy to ride in the bike lane you don't get to ride a bike, that's correct.

Because it fucking has WALK right in the name - side and then WALK. It's not the side BIKE. It's not a mixed use trail. It's the motherfucking sidewalk.

Funny. I've never driven on the sidewalk. But if you happen to drive through Oakland on San Pablo Blvd. at 3am, you will -guaranteed- come across people riding in your direction down the center lane.

If I had a GoPro cam, you'd laugh your ass off. And then you'd shut it.

Quit trying to say I'm somehow incompetent behind the wheel because all the recycling collectors riding bicycles enjoy doing stupid shit that gets themselves killed on a daily basis.

And BTW, do you ride down the center lane opposing traffic going full speed? That's what I'm talking about. What do you mean "if you're having such a hard time"? If you splatter on my windshield, how is that my issue? I'm not having such a hard time doing that. The liability is yours.
