I'm huge on bicycling. I'd say I'm a bicycling enthisiast... And in years past I rode several hundred miles per week. What I'm saying is that vast numbers of bicyclists think no laws apply to them. Sometimes it costs them their lives.

If you live in a metro area, you see it too. Do you ignore it? Sounds like you're advocating it.

If I can video tape an intersection and capture 1000 riders in a single day blowing a red light at full speed... Would you think it was a problem then? That's the magnitude of the problem around here. It's not my imagination and I'm certainly not a hater.

The title of this thread is "people on bikes are douchebags" which is bullshit. Not everyone who rides a bike is a douchebag. Are you a douchebag? Im certainly not going to admit to being a douchebag. So that makes at least 2 people that ride bikes are not douchebags. You could be a douchebag, but lets just say for the sake of this conversation that you are not. That debunks that the comment that "people on bikes are douchebags".

Now if Fris would have said, "85% of people on bikes are douchebags" then that would be more easier to accept, however I would then be interested in how he comes up with those numbers. Ive seen lots of motorcyclists ride between cars, and would you believe getting stuck on the interstate them pesky motorcyclists have the nerve the ride between and around cars? The NERVE!! lol

If your on a bike, and you blow through a red light and you get hit. Your not only a douchebag, but you might also get to leave in a giant douchebag, with the words "coroners office" on it.

this is a false assumption... most don't, if most did their would be an epidemic of bicycle deaths going on all over, which there isn't. If they are driving erratically? Dangerously? Stupidly? They deserve what they get, nobody here is denying that, but most do follow the rules you just clump them all together as one for some ignorant reason.


as for staying on trails... some people don't ride mountain bikes oddly enough. You ever ride a road bike on a trail? it's not pretty... Some people like to go places on their bikes, not just ride in circles.

Seems there are a lot of pissed of people in cars stuck at red lights or in traffic in this thread. I'd rather be two blocks further down the road then stuck stopped at a light with people in huge cars feeling like that

same here. i gladly get out of the way of any pedestrians but there are too many crazy fuckers/drunk or high fuckers out there on the roads. you never hear of someone getting run over in the sidewalk. i'd rather get a ticket for being on the sidewalk than become roadkill.

I ride rarely (like seriously, a couple of hours a year for the past 3 years) and I've already had one near miss. Was riding along a suburban street, minding my own business, when a car pulled out from a side street across my path. I managed to brake in time, ended up only about a foot from their door, and my back wheel was up in the air.

I agree there are stupid cyclists, but it's the stupid drivers I'm more worried about... you do the right thing but get hit by an idiot, you're going to be seriously injured, or dead. That's why I hate riding on the road.

Some are idiots but so are some drivers.

In the last ten years I converted a few of my friends from car-fanatics to bicycle-maniacs. On one of my best childhood friends this conversion went so well he sold his 2nd gen Camaro [almost flawless condition, rarity around here] and was riding bike instead. He moved from Budapest to Dublin and than San Francisco and he Still does not own any cars, but rides bicycles.

This is one of the best inventions of humanity, period.

A couple pedestrians are killed every year in San Francisco by bicycles on the sidewalk. :2 cents:

Tonight I was driving through Oakland on a major street coming back from Target at 7pm. Sun had gone down, and it was completely dark out. I'm turning right, stopped, signalling. I look to my left, and I look to my right. Nobody there. I hit the gas... suddenly there's a black bicyclist wearing all black, no reflectors, no light, no helmet going about 30mph down the wrong way.

I just about came in contact with this person, as they swerved around my car.

And then not 1 minute later as I was driving down the same street, there was a bicyclist wearing all black riding full speed down the center of the #1 lane, without lights... again, going the wrong way... looked like they wanted to play chicken.

Again I had to slam my brakes hard and do a quick merge right to avoid hitting this person.

So... uh... you think this behavior pisses people off because they get though traffic quickly?

I think if you were in my situation you'd have run one of these guys over. And then someone here would want to ridicule you about being envious of their ability to make it to the next red light. :1orglaugh

I just took up riding the last 3 months. I bought an AirZound after getting hoarse yelling at asian women drivers here in LA to pay the fuck attention. 115 decibels gets their attention.

I've found this to be the truth. I can't believe I used to take a car to drive down to the store a mile away. Three months later, I'm in the 220's, and in better shape than I was a decade ago (260lbs). All just by getting my lazy ass on a bike.

The trouble with bikers is that they are whiners. They get run over all the time here in Miami, because the roads are full of drivers that learned to drive on a burro.
