I know that many people bagged on it, but that one Tattoo song I heard wasn't bad once I heard a good stereo mix. But without Michael Anthony they're missing something.

I am not going to risk listening to the album. KLOS was playing that Tattoo song every 95 minutes a few weeks ago. I was glad there were no loaded handguns close. It sucks so bad.
Reminds me of when The Who came out with Who Are You?

Michael Anthony is/was the patented VHalen backup vocal sound. Without him they're like an 8 cylinder engine firing on only three. As in they're going nowhere.
Sorry Eddy & Alex. But when you have issues with every front man you've ever had and then alienate the one guy who stuck with you through all those years (Anthony) the problem isn't all them, it's YOU.
I'd rather buy the Chickenfoot CD than this new VH one.

Surely you jest. Van Halen 1 and Fair Warning are 2 of the greatest albums ever.

Look guys, I know you have some nostalgic memories of cruising around in your t-top Firebirds blasting running with the devil back in the day, but the fact of the matter is that Van Halen is just another shitty 80's hair band. They have always been terrible.
I think MA added real fullness to their sound but also they havent grown musically as a band. I watched a documentary on U2 and the making of achtung baby. They said they got off a tour and said we have to cut down the joshua tree and reinvent ourselves. They had a very hard time finding the sound but they grew as a band. VH is doing the same shit they did in the 80's and Davids shtick isnt as cool when he is an old man.
In 2003, On December 31, Roth played a one night sold out New Year's Eve show at the House of Blues in Hollywood, CA consisting of Van Halen era songs as well as Roth era songs, and some drunken midgets roaming about the stage.
Listening to the Tattoo song as I write this. Man the song sucks!
I have to agree that with no Michael Anthony, The Diamond Dave return is not quite the same as it should or could have been.

Have to agree with this... but there's some good stuff on the album, like China Town and Big River... at least Hagar has gone back to the comic strip universe...

You clearly don't have taste or know your music history. Van Halen was not an "80's Hair Band". Van Halen with David Lee Roth was a great 1970's hard rock band back in a day when everyone had long hair. They had their biggest hits in the early 80's. The "80's Hair Band" phenomenon occured in the late 80's to early 90's- roughly 1987 right up to to 1991 when Nirvana's Nervermind album came out and signaled the ascension of grunge.
and tonight at Circus Circus, we have Van Halen with special opening act, Little River Band.
Oh, its coming all right.
Their first 2 albums were amazing. BUT, when I saw them in Florida on the first tour, 2 shows, I was kinda annoyed that the shows mirrored each other down to the corny jokes by David Lee. Word for word. He was so made for Vegas, even then.
Ok ... I dl'd the new Van Halen, listened to every song, here is my review:
1. every song sounds the same.
2. Dave can't sing anymore, but can still write really crappy lyrics.
3. Eddie can still wail, but these songs BLOW.
4. This is officially the worst Van Halen release ever...complete cheezzze.................

I was breaking balls to a certain extent, but you could say that Van Halen set the stage for Glam Metal and the hair bands of the 80's with their gimmicky music and even more gimmicky stage antics. I never liked them. Just watched that video, David Lee Roth is such a fucking tool
I think you guys are looking at this all wrong. I saw them at gazzari's before they had their first album. This album may not be up to what they were back then, but this means they will be touring again.
Remember Ice Cream Man by Roth? Ok, that was bad. But would still go to the concert!
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that
So you're saying the kid Wolfie doesnt have it huh? Roth with short hair is a bit lame.
good tune i'd say, eddie is still pretty good
old times
If the other songs arent at least as good as Tatoo.. which is a good orig tune in the old genre but not the hottest lead song, then I can see where it might be just noise.
Seems a lil loose. They prob need to all (incl Wolfie) go back to Thai Stick hehe
I am listening to the album now. Tattoo and She's the woman both sound excellent. Dave's voice sounds excellent and the rest of the band is still in top shape. She's the Woman ESPECIALLY captures the sound and the fun of Van Halen in my opinion.
I think maybe what has changed, is us. When we used to listen to VH as kids they were the hardest rocking band. Today they sound the same, but compared to other bands they just don't seem to have such an edgy sound.
If you were a Van Halen fan in the past, spend $11 to download their latest album (chances are you spend $20 to buy it back in the day, so whats $11?). Listen to the whole thing a few times while you work this weekend and then decide for yourself.

I love VH and Eddie is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. The guitar sound on this new album is washed out. Roth still has the old tone in his voice but has lost his range. The songs are pretty weak. I wish eddie would go bad to playing his old Kramer guitars cranked up through Marshall stacks. I am disappointed overall but will still go see them at Staples as I have always done when they have toured.
It surely isn't Fair Warning...
