last time east coast usa was in a blackout for a few days, think autumn 2003-04, people in new york started going out on the streets, talk with each other and their neighbours. it was great and weird at the same time as if though people became human again instead of always being busy, rushing, hooked on mobile screens zombies. for modern times i think it would be great to have such days off monthly or annually.

without all electric at night you could actually hear silence - such an awesome relief.

Your home is insured? Lock up your house, get in your automobile and go visit a friend or relative for the day (or overnight) where there is power and heat. This was a (poorly) planned event (in the winter) ...

You could take a mini-vacation overnight too.

Take a laptop or tablet and/or your mobile phone so you don't get bored.

Heee Hee... I just got the power back on about 15 mins ago :)

It went off at 9.15 and came back about 13.45 - Just stayed in bed and occasionally looked out the window... They had the power lines that run down outside, strung from poles above the road down. They have replaced 5 old cables with a single big cable... Much better and nicer...


The new improved electricity is better now too ! Lights are brighter, the heaters hotter and I'm getting a much better picture and sound on the TV... Well worth the inconvenience... :winkwink:

If they told me my power was going to be off the entire day, I would get up early and drive out to San Francisco. I would take my little laptop and go work for a few hours from some little cafe.
