Personally, I think the ones responsible should be punished, and actions should be taken to prevent anything like that happening again. However, mass murder only creates martyrs, and it doesn't help the victims a bit.

Al Qeada is not really comparable to communism, the muslim religion, or the christian religion. Al Qeada is a terrorist group.

Besides the fact that communism is by it's nature pretty much terrorist as well (violent revolution is part of the doctrine), what I was actually trying to show is that you can't judge a whole group by some of it's members actions.

Many members of Al Qaeda, and especially the large group of the ones "involved" with it, have very little knowledge about world politics and such. They have been taught all their lives that Americans (or rather, the West) are oppressors, responsible for things like the situation with the Palestinians. So, ofcourse they decide to fight that which they have always heard is evil. Some more actively than others.

Killing all of them would be much like killing every member of the Nazi party after WWII. Many have no idea of what is going on in the world, and are merely doing what everyone they know says is good.

Hmmm... why don't you answer the 'WHY?' question first?
