Forget SOPA/PIPA - Do you know about ACTA?

Ireland and EU to sign controversial ACTA treaty tomorrow

IRELAND IS TO sign a controversial international agreement tomorrow which promises a major international crackdown on the trade of counterfeit goods ? and illegal internet filesharing.

Irish representatives will sign the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) at a ceremony tomorrow ? as will representatives from each of the other 26 European Union member states, and the EU itself.

History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.

However the same industry rightsholder groups that support the creation of ACTA have also called for mandatory network-level filtering by Internet Service Providers and for Internet Service Providers to terminate citizens' Internet connection on repeat allegation of copyright infringement (the "Three Strikes" /Graduated Response) so there is reason to believe that ACTA will seek to increase intermediary liability and require these things of Internet Service Providers. While mandating copyright filtering by ISPs will not be technologically effective because it can be defeated by use of encryption efforts to introduce network level filtering will likely involve deep packet inspection of citizens' Internet communications. This raises considerable concerns for citizens' civil liberties and privacy rights and the future of Internet innovation.

So, with no proof they cut off your internet, they make the ISPs do deep packet inspection so you have no privacy and you think this is good?

          Man oh man.

              Who gives a fuck!

If this theft shit isn't stopped none of us will have an internet connection anyway
since we can't pay the bill.

None of these bills/laws would have ever come about if you had spent as much time
preaching to people to stop stealing content. Your preaching is a little too late and
              directed at the wrong people.

Go preach to megaassholeload in prison.

                    Anyone that values their privacy.

ACTA makes the ISPs look at every packet of data you send and receive. You think that's a good idea?

Who is going to pay for it? The ISPs? I don't think so.

                    It won't be stopped.

And if it was, it wouldn't change sales. We are giving away all the porn you could possibly want for free. Legally.

People won't stop. Those are not the people that buy porn.

To take away someone's internet connection on an accusation is very wrong. IP spoofing, open wifi, grandkids coming over and stealing something on your connection etc.

You need to think this stuff through from a technical point of view and the implementation.

It's been proven to not work. I believe you have a fundamental right to use the internet and not be monitored whilst doing so.

It amuses me people that sell things that the public would be embarrassed to be caught viewing (legally) are in favour of making their customers love of german piss porn public knowledge. You don't think that would make people think twice about actually viewing legal porn?

All the pirates out there should 1) have seen this coming, and 2) take on the spirit of a true pirate and enjoy their stash of treasure.
