    how big of a deal to fly with your dog?

    anyone done it recently on Delta?
    i have a 14lb~ dog i want to fly with, i dont think its cage would fit under the seat in front of me even in first class... so my only option is to put it in the cargo?

    how much does delta charge for that? how big of a deal is it to do all that?

      It used to be the price of a checked bag, but now most charge a bit more, around $50 or so. Make sure to call ahead first and ensure you can reserve room. Had this happen to a friend in San Diego, they said they couldn't allow his pet because of items being transferred in cargo... raw steaks or dog food?

      SUPER FUCKING IMPORTANT: make SURE to tell the pilot and the flight attendant (tell both because FA's are often lazy shits) you have an animal in cargo and to turn the air on for them.

      Ive heard a number of sad stories where the dog crate come out in the luggage area and mr pooch has taken a forever long nap To save money, they often times turn the oxygen off in cargo. I have friends that are pilots from small props to large Boeing jets and all say the same.

      To me, if I were to fly I would buy my dog a seat on the plane. Delta for one allows you, as long as the dog does not weigh more than 25lbs.

          If you hold him really tight when you jump off the roof, it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

              Depends where you are flying. If you fly through an area that will be below 30 (something like that) they won't do it in cargo. What time of year are you doing it? I think it cost me $100 6 years ago.

                                      I have a friend who breeds labs and often he ships or gets dogs, and most of the time he uses north west, they are very professionals with dogs, they even give you a report of when the dog pooed, when he drank eat etc, very nice airline for animals.
                                      The second time the dog bites you, it's not his fault.

                                          i've heard the same.. this is something you would want to research thoroughly obviously but killing peoples pets are pretty bad for business so i'm sure as long as you let them know there is live cargo they will take extra precautions--even if its lobsters ;)

                                          I wouldn't do it with an older dog though.

                                                      I flew my dog on AA in the cargo area, I could see airline employees talking to her during my layover when she was out by all the guys getting the plane ready. Cost me 150.. They are one of the only airlines I could find that will put a dog in cargo still, most make you buy a seat for them now a days and have weight restrictions but you're fine for those.

                                                          Unless it is a service dog, it will have to be in a carrier. Will that fit on a seat?


                                                          Buddy flew AA cargo. Only problem was the inability to provide a non-stop without a plane change . . . . that he made and I did not. Luckily, being the cutie he was, TSA chicks had adopted him for the 5-6 hours he had to hang and wait for me. He was leash trained by the time I got to LAX.

                                                                  I have flown 20 time or so with my dog at 12 pounds in the cabin

                                                                  I would rather him be cramped in a small cage than in cargo..
