Draft for War - Would you run?

Ok, so much talk about War here, I remember Vietnam very vividly (so ok I am old, shoot me) I also remember my best friend not coming back and I remember him not wanting to go but didn't have a choice.

If the US goes to war, be aware that the draft will come. I feel it. Having sons who are 23-22 and 21 I am pretty sure they will be drafted.

Most of you all are pretty young, reading the board for a while now I figure average age is somewhere around 21.

So guys, are you ready? Have you made plans to abonden your websites and go fight for you fatherland?

If you do get drafted, have you thought about what to do with your sites<?
Where will your income go?
Does you mom cash the checks? Girlfriend? Wife?

We actually sat down and discussed it with our boys. They wouldn't like it (one has a baby, the others have girlfriends and good paying jobs) but I would take care of everything
Wife, baby, income, paying bills.

Lets hope there will be no draft, but if we DO go to war like every young hobble wants on this board,

You be going bye bye first

Firstly, at this time we do not need a draft.

Secondly, I would go if called on.

there won't be any draft. We have the finest military on Earth, and it's 100% volunteer. We have plenty already and plenty who would willingly join if asked. They don't need a draft.

I can neither volunteer nor be drafted anymore. Too old, plus I've already done my time.

I did my 4 years in the Marines, made it to Sergeant, came home happy as hell I never went anywhere dangerous. I have 1 year almost exactly to go before my inactive reserve time is over. I will most likely be called way before anyone gets drafted.

I don't want a war. I don't believe there should be a war. Will I run? No. I signed the piece of paper. I know what it means. I understand the consequences. Always have.

I wouldn't go because I think it is imperative we go in and obliterate any chances of Saddam giving terrorists weapons. Someone else will if he doesn't.

I will go because there are a lot of young kids like yours already in there as young as 17 who need me there with them so they can go back home to people like you. Fuck off if you think I am a warmonger.

I am probably too old to be drafted. But if I was, I would ONLY go if I believed in the goals of the war. I would not have fought in Vietnam...I never believed that communists were evil or that we had the right to dictate political ideals to other countries. I do not believe in getting involved in the affairs of other countries unless they endanger our nation.

I doubt if there would be a draft, as we don't really fight ground wars these days. It's all distance bombing and then small units sent in to secure areas after bombing.

1) We have an insane amount of people volunteering for the military action (even more since 9/11).

2) I would go in a heart beat. If I didn't have a flourishing business to look over, good relationships going on in my life, and wasn't a worthless fatass...I'd probably sign up now!

All the most notable military analists agree that Bush would need to push all the way to Bagdad this time in order to take Saddam out of office. He needs to do it with ground troops. If he doesn't, he is going to kill a lot of US troops and Iraqi civilians for nothing.

Amen Brutha. However I do think there will be more ground war this go around than most people expect.

Personally, I have never had a problem with the thought of being drafted. I always pictured some dipshit country trying to "fuck with America", in which case I would be glad to go fight. That said, I'm not so sure anymore. I never pictured some bullheaded monkey of a president starting more shit than he knows what to do with. I don't agree with how he's going about his shit and neither do alot more people than the news cares to report on. All this shit about we can whoop anyones ass is very true, until it's everyone instead of anyone we will be fighting.

let the people who are in the army reserves/national gaurd/marines/army/airforce/navy go. that is what they are being paid for. free college tuition etc. thats the entire point on them being given salaries/perks during peace time, so when its time to fight we dont have to. if drafted i would enlist though.

Steffie like you I am old enough to have two sons who are of draft age. I was drafted for Vietnam, I failed the physical.

Vietnam was an immoral pointless war. This new adventure scares me more because I do not know what to believe. Saddam is an evil dictator but unless provoked he is not a clear and present danger to the US, North Korea is an Army and not much more but they have not bothered anyone for 50 years.

American history shows the US gets into wars for only two reasons economic gain or if attacked. Some attacks have been staged to galvanize the US population into support, specifically the Gulf of Tonkin incident for Vietnam and probably the Battle Ship Maine for the Spanish American War.

Our government scares the hell out of me. They have taken a single horific incident that occured on Sept 11 2001 and turned it into a justifiction for an international witch hunt.

If either of these events turn into a war it will not be confined to Iraq or Korea. If the administration is correct and Saddam has chemical or biological weapons there is no way to keep them away from our shores. If they are right an N Korea has nuclear weapons they will use them and so will we. This will not be pretty, this will not be bloodless and there will be no place to run.

The entire world should be concerned and we should be concerned for our children.

I like to fantasize about war sometimes but when asked straight up about it - I'm no worrier and I don't think I would be of any use to them.

I would most likely be washing dishes or some thing like that if they came for me.

Of course I would have no choose so yea I would go.
I'd much rather be washing dishes then ending up behind bars for 20 or so fuck'n years for going heywall.

Finally - I hope George Bush has a fuck'n heart attack and ends up in Hell where he belongs!

Regards

I think the only way we'd have a draft would be if we had WW3 or something TREMENDOUS! Like an all out war with Russia or China.

there should NEVER be any whinning about going to war either when the militaty is 100% volenteer. If you're drafted you have a right to bitch - you should go but you still have the right to bitch about it. If you volenteer shuts the fuck up and be a good little bullet stopper.

you know i hate to disagree with you but i believe there is a possible chance of a draft occurring if war breaks out. we do have the finest military and yes it is 100% volunteer. but take into account the loss of soldiers that we might lose and it doesn't hurt to have a back up to replace those that have fallen. so my outlook on this situation? i think there will be a draft and to all the young americans out there who might be called in to serve their country...don't dredd it because you are serving your country proud and by accepting it and making that first step, you are looked upon as an american hero by everyone. fight the good fight!

If WW3 starts we will all be dead in about 45 minutes. No need for a draft then.

To answer the original question, if it came down to Canada having a draft like we did for WWII (when our army grew from what, 44,000 up to over a half million with over a million Canadians serving**), well...I am too old to be included in such a draft.
HOWEVER, if it came down to needing a "home guard" to defend our soil, you gobbledy-god-damn BET I would fight like a wildcat. Issue me a weapon, I'm there.

Anyone who says they wouldn't fight to defend their own soil, their family, and their freedoms, deserves none of it. Only a fucking coward would hide when their country and their way of life needs defending.

I hope that answers the question.

Very good post and something the younger webmasters need to think about.
What well you do? Go or run like some gutless baby
If you go, Who will look after your business
Who will take care of your loved ones?

You younger guy's need to really think about this real hard because more then likely it will happen.

It's not a time for goofy remarks. It's time to be honest with yourself and know that you have things planned out for when you are gone.

If it does happen, friend or foe I hope you make it back safely.

I'm way to old now to be in the service but if I wasn't, I would go.
I was set to join the Marines when I was 17 but didn't because of some split tail that was shaking around me.
Not joining has always been a decision I have deeply regretted

Well, when I was 18 I applied for the air force, took my asvab, and was able to pick my MOS. BUT, then they found out I was deaf in my right ear. Believe it or not, the only place willing to take me at that time was the Navy and their UDT.

I decided not to go. Well here I sit, 28 years old, married, and with 2 kids. My brother in law, is of age to be drafted and getting scared as hell. A lot of the kids 18 and older are. My father in law, served in Nam, and has 2 purple hearts and a disdain for the military life. So bad, that when the AF came to me to work as a civ, he went apeshit.

Anyways, IF the draft got bad enough, like WWII when they were pulling the married guys out too, I would go, cause they will waive my hearing, sit me out somewhere, with a computer, and let me do my stuff.

But, to all those going right now, those who have served (I just had over 25 friends get called up), I admire and appreciate everything you do for your country.

And for the comment that's what they get paid for.
Trust me, not nearly enough, my buddy, who drives a nuke sub, had a wife and 2 kids, and he doesn't get paid a whole hell of a lot. The only reason he gets paid more than others is cause he is on a sub.

People, it isn't about whether you have asthma, or whether you have a bad back, or a bum leg, or flat feet, or a deviated fucking rectum-septum....... and it isn't about what you would do if there was a draft.

The real question here is... would you FIGHT?
If you HAD to, would you get up off your fat cheesy-eatin' chicken-leg-sucking turkey-carvin' ASS and pick up a weapon and fight to preserve your way of fucking life?

Well? Would ya?

(and would you need to be told by a fucking DRAFT to do so?)

I'm not gonna die so that Bush and his associates can get their power and money.

If there's a draft I'm heading up to canada and starting an anarchist commune. Anyone care to join?

Ya ya, whatever Joey. Just answer the question...... if your country was being invaded, what would it be..... surrender, or fight?

Because, although there are a lot of guys that are too old, or have some ailment or defect that the army won't accept them because of, fact is that these types of people would very well be any country's last line of defense. Try looking up "the Home Guard" of Great Britain during WWII, and you'll soon see how invlaluable such a force can be to a country during such times.

You're not worthy for Canada.

I'm not talking about guys who are too old or who have ailments or defects. I'm talking about perfectly healthy (although possibly fat from too many cheeseburgers) males 18-30 around here who keep talking tough about war. In short, don't talk the talk unless you're gonna walk the walk. Otherwise, you're just another loudmouth coward.

As for me, I don't support war. I would fight if attacked but would NEVER go overseas to fight a war for the rich and powerful.

Let 'em step onto my country's land where I can see them, and they'll have a 30.06 through their skull, CDSmith. I'll be right up there beside ya.
(Sorry, don't personally own anything smaller, but I could borrow a few within half an hour.)

BTW - I really don't like the initial post's referring to America as the "fatherland". This ain't Russia.

You will be looked upon like a hero?
Oh Ok, you mean like all those kids who died in Vietnam and came back as heros?
Or do you mean those guys who had to kill in order to survive only to come home with one leg/arm short and were called "babykiller"

The media is going to play war on this one, it will show the world how Americans will kill kids and women to survive. This will be a ground war.

You come back as a hero? Don't bet on it, there are already anit war demonstrations all over the world, and the "babykiller" signs have already climbed out of the long forgotten closet.

For those who are to young, for those who don't remember. Talk to some Vietnam Vets and ask them if they are considered heros.

And Vietnam was never a war it was a conflict.

I hope it doesn't come to it, but there are so many rights and religious people in the world and expecially in the US, Let the first picture of a dead child come over the american tv and sit back and watch the public spew hate slogans at the fighters of liberty, peace and freedom.

Watch and see!

Been there, done that, lost enough friends,, not going there again

If they do I will definately have to go. so hopefully it is not that big of a war so that they don't impose a draft.

Steffie, a draft is unlikely, but if it would happen, would it be okay with you to send your kids off?

Picture them getting caught by Extremists and slaughtered like human cattle?

Reinstating the draft is a very strong possiblilty.

We already have a so-called war going on in Afghanistan, a 99.9% chance of a war in Iraq, and all this crap with N Korea. Not to mention Iran. You can also throw in the 'war on terrorism'.
Bush has managed all this in just 2 years, whats another 2 years going to bring?
Rumsfeld has already mention many times war with multiple countries is a possibilty.

And now U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, top Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, has introduced a bill for compulsory military or national service for men and women, ages 18-26, without exemptions for college or graduate studies.

I would be a little more than concerned if I was in that age group.
