Comcast blocking some porn with filtering modems by defualt!

So I got a new modem from Comcast for my office. First day using it I couldn't pull up the sites on one of my servers so I start freaking out calling up my host. After doing traces and asking others figured it was just my office computer that couldn't resolve any domains on my host.

So I called up Comcast and after alot of tech support bullshit I get to a level of tech support that can actually help out, and he said the modem/router that they give now has built in site filtering put into the modems hardware and it's turned on by default. So I ask him how I can access this censoring function so I can turn it off and he said customers cannot access it only comcast can switch it off from their end.

I was blown away and the tech guy even said "yeah it's a big WTF moment alot of us had when we saw this".

Can't believe I've never heard of this and can't find anything in google about it.

What does it block? all porn sites? or just certain keywords?

No idea, was blocking access to my ebaked.com server just a little side pet project I have, as well as a couple other sites, no keywords really related.

Sounds like more c0ncrap tech support bullshit ...

If you are using comcast DNS that may be the reason

Try a DNS lookup
Win
Code:
>nslookup domain.com
LINUX
Code:
#dig domain.com
See if the IP resolves

If not use
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Google DNS

4.2.2.2
GTE DNS

If other porn sites resolve (or work in a browser this is the problem)

I think the guy knew what he was talking about. He said "hold on lemme flip this off.. there now reload" and it worked.. it was definitely a modem setting that is not accessible by the customer and it's a filter and he said it was the modem maker that has it set to "on" by default not comcast but I do9n't believe it. It wasn't just my site, there were other ones, just wish I documented it better now that he fixed it I can't tell people who's being blocked.

You need to black out your sites in protest. We need to stop internet censorship.
