    Hollywood started out as a rogue pirate industry

    Did you know in 1913 many movie-makers headed west to avoid the fees imposed by Thomas Edison, who owned patents on the movie-making process.

    Hollywood and the film industry waging this war against new media is the height of hypocrisy.

      Yes, actually I did know that. It's amusing to watch peoples opinions on issues who have no concept of history but thats the American way it seems. Tragically uninformed is par for the course in the USA.

              dear uninformed, the way an industry starts is never how it stays.
              Many businesses have illegal roots. Eventually those roots are severed and the industry becomes legal or it disappears.

              thats the reality uninformed posts like this pretend doesn't exist.

                      Americans dont have a monopoly on ignorance, but few cultures in the world revel in their ignorance the way Americans tend to, generally speaking. A lot of that though is propagandization, of which Americans are targeted by disproportionately via the elite who have less interest in doing so to other countries, since America is the vehicle by which so much military aggression is done through, it is more necessary in the US, which is not entirely Americans' fault. On the other hand, the people perpetually vote in warmongers and elitist fascists so it is their fault on the whole. Hope that clears it up for you. :-)

                          Things have changed a lot since then, but a patent would mean fees on manufacturing the equipment, not using it for what it's intended.

                          A lot of TV shows moved to be filmed in Canada to avoid costs, they were still making the stuff they were selling, rather than profiting from what someone else had made before.
