Stepped out of the door after I locked it and let the door close behind me. That was the real "oh fuck" moment. Fortunately I've got an 85% charge on my phone, and a friend in SF with the key. Just gotta wait for her to get off work. Fucking people with day jobs!

I managed to lock myself out of the office last night when it automatically locked on a timer, luckily a coworker was still in another part of the building and came to my rescue. Otherwise my car keys would be locked in until the morning.Comment

Only once. Sadly at the time I was living on a second floor apartment so there was no way to crawl in the window. It was also about 8PM at night. This was pre-cell phone days so I had to knock on the neighbor'd door and use their phone to call maintenance and have them come let me in. The guy that let me in was cool. He said most of the lock out calls he gets are by drunks at 2am

Never locked myself out of the house before but last week I had my first brain fart.
I was on my way to Daytona for the Grand Am practice for the upcoming Rolex 24.
I had my camera bag with about $12,000 worth of equipment in it with me and I almost never leave it unattended. I wanted to get a sub to put in my cooler for the track so I made an exception and left my camera bag in my locked car while I went into the grocery store to get a sub made. I always park in the same spot.
Got my sub and came out to find that my car was gone. I was already holding my breath worrying that someone would break my window and steal my bag and to find my car was gone just about put me over the edge. I was in shock. I saw one of the old guys collecting carts in the next aisle over so I started to walk over to him to ask if he saw anything unusual and out of the corner of my eye I say my car.
I go to that grocery store about 3 times a week at least and always park in the same row. This time I had parked one row farther over and didn't catch it. Came out and I was just like all those dummies that can't find their car except I thought I had lost it all. Sucks to get old

I have electronic locks so this stuff doesnt happen. I also dont have to give anyone a key, and can assign different codes to different people and keep track of which codes were used. And then delete their code and lock them out when I need to.
Plus, I actually have a key just in case something goes wrong and the electronic part doesnt work, although that has never happened.Comment

2 years back I had to break into my folks place when I came to visit, mother locked from the inside (key still in the lock) and earlier that day she god a new set of meds for recovering after stroke.. so we're guessing the drugs were just enough strong to make her go into a seriously deep sleep or something.. tried cellphone, landline, knocking and banging on the door, and after none of it helped, I borrowed something like a crowbar from a senile old neighbor lady - made a hole in the door and unlocked from the inside.
huge stress but the funny part after that was when the grandma nextdoor said "you did such a neat job, who are you again?", she had helped a stranger break into neighbors appartment, no idea who I was :DCustom adult games / apps for your paysites.

One of my old places in downtown Seattle had automatic locking doors... that sucked.
I've also left my keys in my old office with automatic locks.

I lock myself out on a regular basis. That comes with being the absent minded professor type, I suppose. I also used to be a professional locksmith, having been into locks and security since I was a little kid, so each time I get to find a new way to get in. Them I fix it up so THAT way won't work anymore. My lock picks are inside the house, so I can't use them when I'm locked out of the house.

So now after I've been inside for a couple hours... The entire Adam's Point area of Oakland is now without power. So I'm sitting in the dark surfing on my iPhone, watching my cat have her tiny mind blown by the candles on the coffee table. Fortunately I thought ahead a bit with a decent amount of tealights and a Scoche USB battery backup.

Did it last week. After taking the dog for a walk I left the gate open, so I put him inside, closed the door so there's a small gap and he can't get out and play "Catch me" along the street. And he shut the door on me!!!
Him getting back at me I suppose for not letting him out. Phoned Eva at work and she put down her mop and bucket and come to open the door.Comment

The house I grew up in was like that, basically just a deadlock, no handle with a lock thingy.
I once locked the door when it wasn't properly closed, came back 6 hours later to find it swinging open and shut in the wind. The door was one metre from the street so it would have been obvious to anyone walking past. Luckily no one took advantage of that.

hah, happened to me once ... was a strange feeling when i woke up with smth cold in my hand - the cold thing in my hand was the knob on my door and i had just locked the door while SLEEPING; i must have taken a piss and then a wrong turn haha ... boy, it felt silly being naked in the staircase d'oh ... had to go upstairs to wake up mom and to get my key ... from that day on i am used to put the chain on the door before i head for the sheets :BThere aren't enough faces and palms on this planet for an appropriate reaction to religion.

I keep a house key in my billfold. I used to keep a spare car key, but the new keys won't fit.
If you're in a condo, got a neighbor you really trust? Might give one of them a key. Fortunately I live semi-rural and there are 2 people I would have no problem giving a key to. Or I could just bury one in the yard.
Word to the wise, never use the fake rock. Burglars know what they look like. Also the fake alarm company signs.
The house is alarmed, but also the shed is on the system. Most people in my area have garden tractors, that can cost up to $10,000, a thieves favorite. I don't have one, but sometimes they hit the shed before the house. I don't have a tractor, use a lawn service, but fuck thieves.Comment

I dated a girl who thought that she was saving time by starting her car, then leaving the car and coming back in the house to finish getting ready.
