Yeah I'm not a aggressive guy. I have avoided walking out to the garbage while he's picking carrying a ak47 with a flashlight shining in his eyes. Been tempted but I didn't. Never know when someone else may be packing too and may not be stable in the head. Because of where I live and all the shit I have I have guns stashed thoughout the house, but that doesnt mean I'm stupid enough to go flashing them around. If someone is breaking in one of the storage buidlings I have in the back or walking around I'm boarding myself up in the house and calling the cops. If someone tries to break in my house I'm unloading hundreds of rounds thru the walls and windows. Not gonna wait till they get in to do something.

Not to sound like a paranoid idiot here, but I had someone steal a 4 whealer and a motocross bike out of a enclosed trailer in the back yard. SInce then I fenced the entire back half of the property in and put like 50 spotlights up around the entire property.

Either he is a dumpster diver (probably) and not the brightest one of all time or the stupidest identity theft crook of all time. :)

But it is good news he is looking at others. Id let him be. He'll think you are the asshole if you confront him. Why make enemies. Just dont put nothing good in there. Sucks tho a bit I understand.

I worked on a garbage truck a few summers as a student, and the pickers here mostly were at the dump. People would look down on them, but they're people too. Most have it rough, they don't need people to make it worse for them.

Honestly, if you're worried about the guy go out and talk to him. Tell him you're proud of him recycling and would like to help, asking what he's looking for so you can have it put aside in the future and make it easier for him to pick up so he doesn't have to rummage though your stuff cause you believe in recycling and want to help someone who's doing such a good thing for the environment! Basically - befriend him and get him to tell you what he's up to.

Why would anyone get defensive about their garbage? Wouldn't that say more about you than the person collecting it? I have a guy who comes around on a bike every now and then and takes cans, milk jugs out of my recycling--I don't care, why should you?

i don't know what its like in all areas but where i live you can easily pick up stuff worth a few hundred dollars just driving down the road on garbage day. people throw out so much. computers, tvs, dressers, etc all in good shape.

I now have to get up early and put it out because my girl can't stand the people going through it.

We live in the city and there's a TON of it. We bought a new couch a few months back and put the old one out on the street. It wasn't out there an hour before someone had it stripped apart and all the metal out of it.

Another time I put out the old hot water heater AND and old washing machine. A husband and wife team managed to get BOTH of them into the VW JETTA of all things.

print out a sign that says please no salvaging my trash. see if he respects that. don't get violent it will never end right if you do.

aha, that's the difference.. here you cant put anything on the street or you get fined. Only garbage bags in containers get picked up. You have to bring devices, couches etc yourself to the dump, recycle stores, sell it or whatever.

Actually, more like the opposite. People here have so much access to so much stuff that they through away perfectly good, valuable things all the time. Some people take advantage of that, and make some good money.
