I call bullshit on this

$34k after taxes is about a salary of $48,000 a year. So this report is saying anyone making $48k/year is in the top 1%? bullshit, you can make that at almost any company within 5 years starting from the ground floor. Shit, even my friend who is a felon makes $60k/year working a trucking company

Even if you are looking world wide? still dont believe it...

It's an average of total earnings divided by the population. "So a family of four would have to rake in $136,000, after taxes, to be among the world’s richest."

why not? those people don't count? It's US and Europe, and then there are the "poor countries" which shouldn't be included in any statistics?

Yes because this is not realistic, this look like someone with 34000$ income is super rich, while that is maybe a salary of ordinary occupation like bartender in Usa or western europe.

I don't see anything unrealistic about it, it just shows that 99% of the people in the world earn less than $34k/year... what conclusion one wants to draw from that is up to them...

Once again it's not that 99% of the world makes less than $34k a year. It shows that if you divide total earning by the entire population by the total population then you come up with $34k a year. And if you make more than that figure you would seemingly be a 1%'er..

In Latvia average monthly salary is 400$, so it's 4,8k $ / year!
If in US salary is so nice, no need to think that the same is in the rest of world

Refugee camps in Africa with 1 million people in each really skew the results considering they make less than $20 a year in odd jobs.

One word: Debt.

Richness is not only about how much you make. Most people with houses don't really own them and there's probably a good portion of the "1%" according to that $34k/yr that have net wealth under $0.

Another thing why is unrealistic, just because someone makes 100$ monthly that does mean how he cant do shit with it,there is a chance how those 100$ will cover monthly rent ,food and who knows what else, same like a salary of 1000-1500$ in usa.And that is why i consider it unrealistic.

"While a salary in the mid-30s isn?t high by American standards, Milanovic notes that number is per person, and is adjusted to account for cost-of-living differences among countries."

So if anyone actually read the article, the 34k was per person per household.

So a household of two would be 68k, household of 3 102k and so on.

...and it would also include kids who don't earn anything yet?

Average household income for an average family would probably be a better measure.
