No, you want an augar type juicer because the juice will not be nearly as oxidized (lowers nutritional value). A really good cheap version is the Omega. There are various versions. I started years ago with one of these and it worked great. If you find yourself juicing on a regular basis then upgrade to a Greenstar or a Super Angel Juicer as they will be a good long term investment because they get so much more juice out of the veggies.

go to amazon & there are 177 reviews. here's one...

Everything that all the other people are writing about this juice extractor and gave a low rating is true. And , I'm no newbie to juicing.. I've been juicing for 15 years with an Omega 1000 or better and have been using my roommate's Jack LaLane juicer while I get replacement parts for my Omega, which only needs some new parts due to my fault.

The people who gave this item a high rating are either not serious juicers and only use it occasionally, or haven't had the item very long, or for whatever reason don't know what a good quality juicer is like. This one certainly is not of high quality. I wouldn't even call it mediocre.

This juicer has a weak motor and is not for serious juicers. It cannot handle cruciferous veggies like carrots, kale, broccoli on a regular basis

I can't believe Jack LaLane would ever endorse his good name to this heap of junk. It is built very cheaply with plastic that stains in a heartbeat and cracks and splits shortly thereafter.

A lot of Juice and pulp gets in-between the jam where the lid fits on the machine and it dribbles out and makes a mess. The manufacturer says this is normal. Pfffft. Whatever. Much of the pulp that is produced from shredding fruits and vegetables gets stuck in weird corners of the expulsion chute and doesn't come out and drop into the waste receptacle, making it somewhat difficult to clean. Gee Tristar (the company that makes or markets the machine) have you ever heard of rubber gaskets or seals?

The only metal you'll find on this juice extractor is on the shredding disc. The rest is CHEAP plastic that as I said before, stains easily and severely and has a propensity to crack so I wouldn't wash any of the parts in the dishwasher regularly.

Power? What power? If you put a whole apple in the large feed chute, many times it stops the motor cold. And if you normally juice a lot of cruciferous vegetables, the shredding disc will get dull in about a month. Then you must spend another 30.00 to replace it. There have been many times when I've been using this machine and apples get stuck in the feed tube, or I'm juicing carrots and the motor stops. Power my butt. This machine is a heap of junk. It juices whole apples SOMETIMES, the apples that are Ken and Barbie sized. Also, if you stick a whole apple in the chute many times it leaves a slice of apple at the bottom that can't be reached with the food pusher and will not go through the machine. The reason I'm making so much noise about apples is because on the commercials they say, "Oh and look, it juices whole apples, so you don't have to waste time slicing them." What a crock. "Well gee Jack, did you know that it's not good to be consuming a lot of apple seeds?"

One time I was juicing something, I think it was celery and something else. The stringy fibers of the celery and carrot got wrapped around the disc and in-between where the food pusher gets close to the disc and it fused the lid and pusher together so that it was effectively stuck and couldn't be removed. I had to remove it by wedging pliers in-between it and loosening it with very hot water. :\ Great craftsmanship.

Pulp comes out wetter than it should be, considering how great this juice extractor claims to be.

Oh, and if you're concerned about buying American, might as well skip this machine. It's made by our good friends in China. For the same money, you could have a real juice extractor (The Omega 02) that comes with a 5 year warranty instead of a 1 year warranty and is actually made in the USA.

I have not heard a lot good about the Jack LaLanne juicer. The primary factors [IMO] when it comes to juicers, are as follows:

                1. Easy to clean
                2. Easy to use
                3. Lots of juice (dry pulp)
                4. Durability

The only way you are going to get lots of juice and dry pulp is to have a high powered motor. Most of the juicers I checked out were 800 and sometimes 1000. I suspect the Omega 1000 is 1000w, but you can check it out if considering it.

The juicer I use is the Breville Juice Extractor. This guy has 5 speeds and a 1200 watt motor. It is really easy to clean and gives very dry pulp. I use mine daily with no issues. I watch people on Facebook buy a lower quality juicer all the time. Same results: broken after a couple months, or like someone said today, unable to juice broccoli or cabbage. All it takes it power.

I recommend the Breville with no reservations.

Don't do this. Make enough juice to drink at the time. The longer you store your juice the more the nutrients diminish. Get a good juicer.

I can clean the veggies/fruit, juice and clean up in less than 20 minutes, so it is worth your while to not scrimp on this appliance.

I can't add anything that anyone else hasn't already said, but I got the Omega J8005 from Amazon over the summer and so far it has worked really well.

I bought it back in 2003. It worked great, though I must admit cleaning it was a major pain in the ass. However being a serious juicer, I used it daily and after a couple of months, blade went dull as hell and a replacement would have to be ordered from the USA making the whole ordeal ridiculously expensive so I gave up on it. It was great while the blades were sharp, though.

if you want to make juice a few days ahead of time you need to put some raw honey into it as a preservative. Make sure there is absolutely no air space between the lid of your container and the juice as oxygen will kill the nutritional value of your juice very fast. That veggie juice you see pre-bottled in stores is total bullshit.

IF you want the best juicer and also want it to look beautiful on your countertop get the super angel juicer. Those super hot raw foodist yoga type girls will want to come over just to use your juicer.

Well, thanks for all of the information and advice. I also watched a bunch of YouTube reviews for assorted juicers, and I've come to this conclusion...

No juicer for me - Jack LaLanne or otherwise.

I'd rather just make an occasional salad instead. I have a great food processor and a nice blender. Good enough for now!

Thanks again, and Happy New Year To All!

i've got a blendtec blender which allows you to keep all the vital skin/pulp/nutrients. it's pricey, but it's commercial grade and is used in every starbucks as well as a host of other food service.

Ha, funny, a "juicer" post on GFY. I just got interested in this after stumbling across some videos on YouTube..."Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead" Juicing Video

Tired of feeling like crap and need to get off the caffeine and junk/fast foods I intake. Don't really need to lose weight, but just wanna be healthier. I'm gonna try the 15-day "detox" of nothing but this raw veg & fruit "juice"....then I'll just drink it like once a day along with normal (healthy) solid foods...I can never even come close to getting the amount of veg & fruit we're supposed to. I figure I'll give this a try.

Just bought this Breville Ikon juicer on Amazon for $200, had good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Breville-BJE51...5550073&sr=8-2

Will start "juicin'" for 15 days as soon as it arrives....curious to feel all the purported health benefits all these juice-hippies rave about. Short term and long term...

Adding honey makes a lot of sense because besides the vitamins one of the greatest benefits from fresh juice is the live enzymes which will die off after a few days, and since sweeteners are food for enzymes it should keep them alive longer.

I have been juicing about a year and a half. When goodgirl would come out I would offer her juice, but she had no interest. Tasted it, but that is about it. About 3 months ago someone mentioned that movie so she put it on Netflix.

The next day she asked me to show her how to do it. Now, I rarely get to fix the juice. She has really gotten into it. As she has RA, she is very in tune with her body and has definitely noticed a difference.

yeah that blendtec is a fucking demon blends even faster than the vitamix

Also if you guys can find a local small organic farm for your source of veggies instead of the mass produced stuff at the major supermarkets it makes a world of difference in nutritional value.

I have a Breville as well and i fucking love it!

I juice twice a day. It takes me 3 minutes to clean it. I feel like a million dollars.

I eat a plant based diet, I don't eat meat or processed foods. When I was eating raw veg and fruits, it was just too much. You can tell if you need that much fiber, but honestly, I think the recommended doses are a bit stretched. You can just eat nuts, beans, etc. I don't go by recommended amounts, I go by how I feel.

We don't have any recipes. We go to Sprouts and fill up the cart with various fruits and veggies, then start combining them at will.

Based on your recommendation I just bought the same model off Amazon.ca for 300,saved 100 bucks.Just what I need is another appliance I always wanted to try the juicing thing
