i must be an idiot, i've never asked a hosting company to install a script for me.

I'm a girl and even I can install a script.

Takes longer to ask the host to do it and wait on it. lol

I am honestly surprised to see this post. Especially since after checking with the sales person who assisted you told me that he came to an agreement and to NOT CHARGE YOU for the installation once it was determined that the install should be fairly straight forward.

Your guys were well aware of the simple script install before I posted on GFY, and at that point they told me they were being generous only charging me $99, instead of the normal $150. After mentioning that I had never been charged a cent for script installs in the past, and that I'd like to see some type of document of services charges (which they couldn't provide me with), they then offered to drop the charge to $49.

Almost as soon as I posted on GFY asking if this was normal (which for some reason you think was wrong), one of your guys contacted me on ICQ (after originally speaking to him on the live chat) saying they'd do the install for free.

So I'm not overly sure what you're surprised about.

Sure if you're a long term customer they might do one as a favor every now and again, but I wouldn't expect them to be doing it all the time without charging for it. This if only because some scripts can take an hour or more to set up, then the webmaster changes their mind and wants a different one, etc. I wouldn't WANT to pay enough of a premium to cover unlimited work like that. The 90% of customers who don't need the extra hand holding would be paying for what they don't need.

This is the best answer.

I am sure most web hosting companies do not give a shit about those two second installations, that have well documented dependencies, and what not. Some of them are so easy you unpack, and 99% of it's done.

However, there are an endless number of scripts out there with little to no documentation. Additionally, they (the owner/script writer) does not license and pay for some of the dependencies and want you to rope-a-dope a bunch of free shit together to get their product to work (this is NOTORIOUS on media scripts). There are a number of others that have settings that you would not typically have off/on as they create possible security issues.

In short, expecting a host to be the 'tech support' for tens of thousands of various scripts out there on the market is unrealistic. Especially considering that many are complete crap and leaving it to the customer and web host to figure out the riddles of making their script work without proper documentation is madness.

:2 cents:

I'm surprised that someone can be so completely and utterly helpless, incompetent and downright stupid.

Script install or no script install Webair still sucks.
