Relocated to Northern California

Hello, It is a nice state you have here. I am staying outside of Lake Tahoe at the moment but headed towards SF. Anyone from the Bay Area? What is good?

Peace.

Norcal is the bomb. Perfect weather, not too hot in the summer, none of this "dry heat" crap, never snows, rarely rains. No crime, no smog, no traffic.

Oh please. Especially where you live. Definitely gets too hot and rains too much.

Besides, didn't you recently put up a pictorial essay of how much the economy sucked where you live? And no crime? I wonder if sicone agrees with that.

It's California. It rarely rains here. I

Does the economy suck where I live? Sure does. Here and everywhere else.

Sicone doesn't live where I live. Not by a long shot.

About 45 minutes away, but yes a huge difference in our communities as far as crime. I'm more in the city while Rochard is in a still small town area in the beginning of its growth. I like the area Rochard lives, Don't think I could live there myself but the older I get and the worse it's getting on the streets here for my son makes me think about small town life a bit more.

LOL, it rains in the East Bay, hits 100 degrees in the summer, and everything over the 1000 ft elevation is under winter storm watch tonight and tomorrow. I don't actually believe them when they say it's possible there will be snow at sea level, but we'll see I suppose.

It's funny how your priorities change as you get older.

When I was a kid, I was raised in a very small town. I hated it as a kid. Nothing to do. I mean, NOTHING to do - No bowling, no movies; 9PM at night everything shuts down. I couldn't wait to leave.

Now as an adult... I miss the trees, the distance between the neighbors... I'm bummed that my kid isn't growing up the same way I did. All she'll ever know is suburbia.

I didn't say it never rains here or never hits 100 degrees. It doesn't rain here often, when it does it isn't brutal, and it's not the huge storms I had growing up as a kid.

Where I live the annual average precipitation is 24 inches. Compared to where I grew up....

Clinton, NJ: 49 inches yearly
Miami: 60 inches yearly.
Seattle 52 inches yearly.
Houston: 47 inches yearly.

Snow? That's funny. It hasn't snowed here since I moved her five or six years ago. There might be snow up in Auburn tonight, up in the hills, but that's a bit north of us.

I'm not saying it never rains or never gets hot here. It does, obviously. But over all it's nice - we have seasons; It gets cold in the winter but never snows, it gets hot in the summer but only for a week at a time (unlike Phoenix). It never gets humid here, never a "dry heat" either. It's like LA but without the bullshit.

Actually west about an hour. Tahoe is going to be nice soon! Mostly for like minded people, the culture, new city to explore etc. Jobs are starting to pick up in SF and LA.

Headed to LA next week to scout around. It is so damn big! It seems that if I stay close the coast it is better but more expensive obviosly. Will visit some people in Santa Clarita on the way.

I was going to start a thread on this later today.

My wife and I are currently looking to relocate to San Diego, but the furthest I've ever moved was from NJ to NY and back. Any tips on moving cross country? Finding a new place to live? etc etc etc... I'm a complete noob at this.

When I moved from WPB, FL to San Jose, CA I stayed in an Extended Stay Hotel for a month while I looked for a place to live. The monthly rates aren't too bad. In San Jose it was about $1400/mo. The rooms are sort of like an efficiency with a very small, but usable, kitchen area (full size fridge, 2 electric burners and a microwave). For a month it was okay.

What part of SD are you guys looking to move to? Have you came out here and checked out the neighborhoods?

I've been there before and really liked it. I also have family that lives close by so that will definitely work in my favor. I have no clue about any neighborhoods there. I may take the advice of an efficiency place is temporarily staying with family isn't an option.

We just packed up and left and if you have family/friends to stay with it helps. If you have dogs/cats, the Holiday Inn express is pretty accomodating and not too pricey.
SD is nice I would like to spend some more time there.

I lived on Mt Rose for a bit and loved everything but the snow! I would totally recommend if you are going to be in the area in Sept to go to the best in the west rib cookoff in Sparks, NV (reno). Its the best!!
