Boy kills himself after ?facing expulsion and sex offender registry? for streaking at football game

Interesting, that would mean around 90% of rugby players in the UK should also go on the sex offenders registry

Full story http://engineeringevil.com/2013/10/1...football-game/

- Christian Adamek hanged himself on October 2 and died from his injuries two days later a week after he streaked at his high school football game
- He was arrested and school district recommended he face a court hearing
- If convicted of indecent exposure, he’d have gone on sex offenders list

"A popular 15-year-old student has committed suicide after he reportedly faced expulsion and being placed on the sex offenders’ register simply for streaking at a high school football game.

Christian Adamek, from Huntsville, Alabama, hanged himself on October 2, a week after he was arrested for running naked across the Sparkman High football field during a game.

The teenager died two days later from his injuries and on Wednesday, friends and family gathered at a memorial service as they struggled to comprehend the beloved student’s death.

A video of Adamek streaking during a game against a rival team was posted on YouTube hours after the event and students took to Twitter to call him a ‘legend’."

Story continued http://engineeringevil.com/2013/10/1...football-game/

It was bound to happen. Our law enforcement and government officials' knee jerk response to anything naked is 'ZOMG!! Arrest them and make them a sex offender!'. Was streaking at the game appropriate? No. Was arresting a 15 year old kid and putting him on the sex offender registry FOR LIFE an appropriate reaction? No. Suspension and maybe community volunteer work would have been more appropriate.

The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act[2] is a federal statute that was signed into law by U.S. President George W. Bush on July 27, 2006. The Walsh Act organizes sex offenders into three tiers and mandates that Tier 3 offenders (the most serious tier) update their whereabouts every three months with lifetime registration requirements.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Wa...a pplications

Under the current law, anyone who commercially operates a website or releases sexually explicit images of actual humans, regardless of the format (DVD, photos, books, etc.), is subject to penalties that include up to five years in federal prison per each infraction of the regulations. These regulations do not currently apply to explicit drawings (i.e., adult cartoons, hentai) as no actual humans are involved in such production. However, the exclusion for such sexually explicit drawings are being confronted with changes to these laws in the recently signed Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act addendum to the adult record-keeping requirements now codified at 18 U.S.C. § 2257A.[13] At this time, though signed into law, the portions of § 2257A which include simulated sex are not enforceable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_P... al_challenges
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act was an overbroad statute having many unintended affects on many people. This is a horrid example ...

This is what we get when money gets involved in the justice system.

Here is what I mean. Many jails are now run by private companies. These companies want criminals. They need them for profit. So they lobby politicians to make stricter laws and harsher sentencing. The politicians jump at it because it is a cheap, easy sell to the voters. They can come off as if they are tough on crime and when you say, "This new law will make all sex offenders register for life" the voters like what they hear.

Nobody realizes, at the time, that shit like this can happen. So the kid gets arrested, they charge him with what they think is the appropriate crime, and now we learn if he is convicted as part of the mandatory minimum sentence he gets to register as a sex offender for life. Unintended consequences all stemming from a company wanting to make money and politicians wanting easy votes. Add in school administrators who are power hungry or forget that they are dealing with kids and you have a recipe for tragedy.

Theres also a few cases where people have been caught publicly urinating. You could be in a HUGE forested park, pee behind a tree and if you get caught there is a chance you can get put on the Sex Offender registry.

This is first time I've ever criticized someone in my small number of posts on this board, but this is an idiotic statement.

As we all know from experience young kids do really crazy things at times, not that streaking is high on that list, but once a young person faces the prospects of the insane justice system coming to get him, he simply had no idea what his world had come to and was not prepared to live as an outcast for the rest of his life...

Who would be..

everything is life and death at that age. Some people never grow out of that emotional knee jerk response--lots of examples on this board..

Just because there 'is a chance' he could be put on the registry doesn't mean it would happen. No court on any planet would give him full charges for something that stupid, would have been thrown out of court most likely. They just jumped to conclusions, if anything the media got an assist for scaring him like that.

a-fucking-men.

its things like this that make me almost as ashamed of being america as our stupid wars do. our society is so fucking bored we have to arrest everyone for doing anything that might not be "normal", fuck the constitution or freedom. they arrest anyone they just don't like anymore and make up a reason for it later. being an outlier is no longer an option, you have to be like everyone else, or be very quiet, else wise you get harassed by the overbearing wingnuts with nothing better to do then establish standards for others to live by.

He's 15. If he was arrested for murder he would have a clean record when he turned 18. Nothing would make him have a permanent record. Expecially not running around naked as a joke.

I agree - he was a pussy and likely had other issues. They almost always charge people with that whenever nudity is involved, but rarely does it stick. Charge high, plea bargain low. Generally a first offense could easily be plead down to a misdemeanor or less. Now expulsion is another matter. I've known kids expelled for wearing the wrong T-Shirts.

You can get charged as a "sex offender" for pissing in public - even in the bushes or behind an alley. Those too are generally plead down.

The sex offender registry has gone way too far.
What was put into place so that we could keep an eye on the truly criminal perverts is now hurting the innocent.

When I was a kid in the 1970s streaking was so popular people were doing everywhere.
I did it, my friends did it, a guy did it on the Oscars and we even had a hit song called The Streak

Now 40 years later we ruin peoples lives over such a petty little thing as streaking.
Whats next? Women in skimpy Bikini's getting arrested and having to also registrar?

We are so screwed up these days

He was a kid you fucking asshole and being threatened by the power of the government to ruin his life for a prank that years ago!

Of course that was before this shitty country went down the drain and the decline continues rapidly toward 3rd world status. Get ready for it boys and girls!

He was a 15 year old kid, not a fucking lawyer and it seems pretty clear that he really did believe he was going to be fucked for life. Hell, even the local TV stations were saying as much.

No more sports, school situation fucked up, no college, disappointing his mother, criminal sex registry following him everywhere, all over the news and he's just 15. He freaked out and killed himself. Poor kid.

What he should have had was an attorney squashing bull-shit charges and drilling into the kids head that he's a minor and nothing matters once he turns 18.

Agreed.

And now his parents will be forever haunted for not getting him that attorney.

My understanding of the article was he only had a mother at home which made things worse. The school administrators should get fired/sued for revving this up from mischief among teens to criminal activity.

Very irresponsible and over blown for school officials then again so is kicking kids out for chewing their pop-tarts into the shape of guns. In my day a gym coach or asst. principal would have paddled him and let it go.

Unfortunately you are talking about soulless fucks who only want power and money and don't care who they hurt or how many lives they destroy in the process.

I am sure they sleep just fine. Hope karma gets them and gets them soon.

Sorry, this is pretty tragic, but "Hanged himself"? Ever heard of the correct term for some who has "been hanged"? AKA, Hung? What pathetic wording.

No I don't mean you WHP, I know you only copy and paste stuff.

Not in this case:

Quote:
The regular past tense of hang is hung, which would be used in all the examples listed above. However, there is one difference when it comes to hanging someone by the neck. In this case the past tense is hanged which means killed by hanging

No. Suspension and maybe community volunteer work would have been more appropriate.
In my country you cold get arrested for up to 15 days for doing something like that. This law does apply to adults (18+) but not to 15 year kids, however.

I believe the States have the most suppressive laws among co-called civilized countries

One can only hope that karma bits principal Michael Campbell in the ass and one of his kids dies in an automobile accident or something similar so he can face the daily torture that he has caused this other family with their needless loss.

You can get charged as a "sex offender" for pissing in public - even in the bushes or behind an alley. Those too are generally plead down.
This is why the plea bargain should be abolished. It has ruined the American justice system, because it's used as a tool not to determine guilt or innocence but to force a conviction. They stack all kinds of charges on top of each other to force people into taking a plea bargain and call that justice.

It's absurd and needs to be done away with same as charging people with 20 things for a single crime in order to get them on something or force a plea. That's not justice.

I don't know if this has any role in this or not, but one thing that has changed is access to media. If I had been arrested when I was 15 the only people who would know would be me, my family and anyone who might have been there when it happened or who I chose to tell.

Now with Facebook, Twitter, every kid having a cell phone etc. The news is out and everyone in town knows as soon as it happens. Not only that, but the story might hit a major online news site and pretty soon you have thousands of people from all over the world commenting on your situation.

Possible that he had underlying mental issues? Killing yourself over pending criminal charges seems extreme. Sad story.

Some kids are primarily focused on the here and now, while others are more about crafting an idealized tomorrow for themselves.

For the latter, learning (or having compelling reason to believe) that their future is irrevocably fucked is about as devastating as it gets.

L-Pink was right, a good lawyer could have convinced the kid that things weren't nearly as hopeless as he thought.

Streaking and nudity have nothing to do with sex.
Sexual abuse also has nothing to do with sex; it has to do with violence. Keyword: abuse. Rape? Nothing sexual about it. It's pure violence.

The misuse of the word sex is one of my most serious pet peeves. It's used to indicate the physical coupling of two consenting adults, the most heinous violence between an adult and a non-adult and even by people who can't be bothered to say or type "gender" where it's actually the more appropriate word.

Language has it's uses and it's too bad we've decided it's just a quaint throwback kind of thing.
