The Top Ten Newsmakers In Porn 2011
The Real Top Ten Newsmakers in Porn In 2011
By MikeSouth December 20th, 2011 From http://http://www.mikesouth.com/mike...-in-2011-5655/ This isn't some self serving industry aggrandizing bullshit like you get from XBiz and AVN This is the real deal. In no particular order PWL - Obviously Pornwikileak pops into my mind first. I spent a lot of time and money fighting this fight, as did others. It's a fight we won too, and in ding so we exposed and shined light on some of the biggest scumbags in porn. Donny Long of course but then there's also his friends like Michael Fattarosi ( Ya he has been keeping a low profile lately huh), Joe Blow (he disappeared in a hurry) and others.....Kudos to everyone who helped take out this trash, you all know who you are, and who you AREN'T (yes thats you FSC) AIM - The lack of security and audit trails of AIMs medical database led to it's compromise and it being the source of most of the info that PWL started with. AIM knew trouble was coming...legal trouble and Sharon Mitchell bailed and AIM crumbled. Efforts by the FSC to ressurect it in the name APHSS also failed miserably. The industry now finds itself without any centralized testing database. Many people consider this an improvement over AIM. HIV - Yes we had another outbreak and AIM wasn't there to blame but that's OK AIMS first cousin the FSC stepped up to the plate and continued to stumble around and generally fuck things up, just as they are expected to do. AHF - AIM and the FSC made themselves (and us) easy targets for the media savvy HWMIC at the Aids Healthcare Foundation and suddenly we found ourselves under scrutiny. AHF pushed CalOSHA to enforce condom usae mandates in porn, when they didn't AHF took it to the media and publicly tried to tie filming permits to mandatory condom use, when that failed they got more than two times the required signatures to put it on the ballot in 2012. Now the agenda gets played out in the media in a hot election year and it provides candidates with an issue to demagogue so that they can avoid the real issues like California is going broke....along with the rest of the nation. AVN - Once the industry voice and leader AVN sold and like other print magazines it is suffering. The downturn in porn profitability and the drastic loss of advertising revenue has all but reduced the once powerful magazine to a paper tiger. It doesn't help itself when it panders to the industry instead of presenting the cold hard facts. Facts like hey we did this to ourselves, if we don't change the way we do business it will only continue to go to hell... Manwin - I have heard it ever since I got into porn..."If anyone with good business sense ever got into porn they would take over the whole industry" Meet Manwin, the parent company of Brazzers whomever they havent bankrupted they have bought. they used questionable tactics (Like owning 8 of the 10 largest tubesites in the world) but you cant argue that they have a plan and are executing it with astounding precision. Ask Jules Jordan....He climbed into bed with them, then they said hey we will buy you for 30M. Jules said no and they proceeded to gut his operation by offering all of his employes 2x their annual salary and better working conditions.....the result is that Jules Jordan took a hard blow from his "good honest friends" Hi revenues are less than 30% of what they were....couldn't have happened to a nicer human being... Piracy - We brought it on ourselves really, we never protected the goose that was laying the golden eggs next thing you knowyou can get whatever porn you like for free. easily. The sad thing is many of porns biggest players were aiding and abetting the pirates, and still do....Thanks Jules Jordan, Thanks Wicked... Steve Hirsch - You couldn't go a month in 2011 without this douchebag getting himself on TMZ by offering some E list celebrity or felon a million dollars to do porn. He made us all look as scummy as he is but he didn't care he liked seeing his mug all over tabloid TV and didn't miss a chance to open his cock sucker for TMZs cock....he even swallowed it all. Bree Olson - Bree showed some good planning and savvy PR skills by attaching herself to Charlie Sheen just in time for Charlies well publicized meltdown. Bree rode that wave all the way out of porn....for now. But this Charlie's Angel certainly used it to make herself a household name for a minute. .xxx - Last but certainly not least ICMRegistry, after years of bribery and payoffs, got ICANN to approve the .XXX top level domain. As soon as it was made available it became obvious that the people who didn't want it were right...as of this writing more than 80% of all .xxx domains purchased were defensive purchases, companies paid hundreds and thousands of dollars to keep their good company name from becoming a porn site....Expect a lot more legal action on this front. This one aint over and I don't need tarot cards to see that. Want to get smoke blown up your ass read Xbiz .... Want the hard cold truth, read it here.

While there is legitimacy in that list, I for one am looking into the positive side of the biz as AVN closes in on the 2012 Adult Video Awards ceremony.
Many people and companies nominated really are contributing some great adult entertainment which the industry should be proud of. Yes some companies/films did not get the nod and probably should have, but as I was looking over the list last night I saw many that are damn deserved of recognition. The fact is, this industry continues to make top notch ground breaking films and websites and shows no signs of letting up. Technically content is 10x better than it was in the 90's and the modes of delivery have improved exponentially. As for the negative aspects i.e. your list, there always have been and there always will be scandals and bullshit in the biz like any other industry. At the end of the day one can only hope that people take a good look at who they are playing with and make the ethical decision. .
