    Porn revenue, 2007 / 2011. Global: $20B / $10B, U.S.: $10B / $5B.

I saw this on twitter a couple of times today.
Someone says there is an article in the latest BusinessWeek.

Can anyone confirm if there is really an article in the latest BusinessWeek that discusses porn revenue?

Edit; found it, super long article

    Interesting tidbits.

I would like to know where they came from. I do not think they total both legacy studios, and the online together. While I am sure it's possible, I would bet these are legacy numbers. Meaning traditional L.A./Porn Valley statistics.

i doubt where this is coming from. when at least half of the business is hiding sales offshore and i doubt they are telling anyone how much they are really making

After enabling several boom years, the Internet has brought many smut marketers to their knees. Rampant freebies on “tube” sites have reduced global porn revenue by 50 percent since 2007, to less than $10 billion, including about $5 billion generated in the U.S. Those are rough guesses by Diane Duke, executive director of the industry’s trade group, the coyly named Free Speech Coalition.

Based on what? One woman's guess?

I would say that number is low if you knew the true numbers of online only, legacy (L.A.), and other worldwide providers (japan, german, south america, etc.) combined. By inclusive, that includes not only the traditional porn outlets, but all of the hobbyists, clip4sale, and cam folk. Most of which I doubt are represented in those numbers.

That being said, I would guess her 50% decline is somewhere in the general ball park.

Same here. Although certain people with an agenda will dispute that and say "it's better than ever!" and will seriously suggest webcams and dating as well as more people coming online in China and India have more than made up the difference. But what I think they overlook is how huge the pay site market was and how lucrative the profit margins used to be. It's a tremendous hit for the industry to overcome and anyone who refuses to admit that the pay site industry as a whole has been hit hard by the freebies is either in denial or talking out of their ass.

Well, I think as an average that is probably in the ball park.

I think there are probably some mainstream porn guys down 75-90%. Especially those who do not update their sites, and have 2001 types of content and formats. I would say many, not all, of the fetish guys (on the whole) could be 10-50% depending on their niche, and if they are still producing new content and marketing.

I think some things are way up, and some things way down. Some are not hit as hard as others, but I do believe on the whole most are probably hit somewhere. Perhaps they are growing, but instead of growing at 300%, they are now growing at 10%. I think the hardest hit is mainstream porn, and in particular, those who no longer invest in updates and new content.

Interesting that they don't consider all the millions that tubes make as porn revenue... They must have learned from PM.

First have Clips4Sale buy 30 domains for $700k, then shortly after that announce you are basically copying their business model and do it yourself.
