    Power/Breaker Question

Is it safe to flip a breaker in the rain? The panel is outdoors but in an enclosed box.

While cleaning my fish tank water hit the surge protector and caused the power in that room to go out.

Push it up with a stick with your hands not touching the panel

Yes, insulated screwdriver trumps dry stick btw.

          YES.

But make sure any metal box or metal conduit is grounded.

You should be using a GFCI breaker outdoor.

You should have you fish tank stuff plugged into a GFCI outlet. The same kind of outlets that should be in your bathroom near the sinks or bath tub. It could just save your life one day if you've got your hands in the tank and something electrical falls in, and at the least it wont throw your breaker. You just press the reset button on the outlet. Costs about $10 at most hardware stores.

GFCI with a power strip with another breaker that is set up to employ a drip loop between the aquarium and the GFCI wall outlet is probably the best practice.

Still doesn't help if his main or sub-panel is outside for whatever reason.

                Thanks everyone! I'm alive.

Flipped the switch and it did nothing. I ran up to Lowes and bought another breaker and that fixed it. Installed it in the pouring rain with a towel over me and the panel.

                I will buy a GFI.

The air works like the oceans except more locally.

I once touched an electric fence with a three foot stick. I will not do THAT again.
