I got a site to move elsewhere so i played around my HOST file like this
    111.111.111.11 mysite.com
saved it, even rebooted the PC and the router but i still go to the old location ?

Any ideas why i can't see the site at the new facility (yes, the site is created overthere) before i change the DNS settings ?

    Windows Vista on this box

    Thanks

make sure you save the hosts file without the .txt extension
you will need to do it as administrator too

and you might need to clear the cache of your browser too

Ok i'm pretty sure the 2 first steps were done correctly. As for the flushing, hummm i didn't do it. I'll try it
      Thanks !

While i have you, rebooting the PC ain't doing the job ?
I will probably go to bed tonight less stupid but i always thought it could do the job (it need a reboot anyways so i figured that it was enough.

well closing your browser should do the job already imo but since you even rebooted I can only think of clearing the cache

In windows (on your local computer): start, run, type cmd, then type:
              ipconfig /flushdns

That should clear your dns cache.

Odd cache is clreared ! One of the anti-viruses i use is AVIRA, i just disabled the protection against HOST FILE manipulation but i still can't see the site at the new location. Man, after 14 years online it's the first it happens and i'm out of ideas. I've always managed to do this.

                      GO IT !!!! It's a bug

                      http://www.tweaksforgeeks.com/window...s-file-ignored

You need to delete the file first. If you just drag it, it won't work !
By the way, the box is seton Windows7, not Vista (way to go bro hahahahahaha)

                      Shit i think i'll take a break
                      Thanks for helping out guys

                          Clear your cache:

                          Windows : ipconfig /flushDNS
