I have an older BMW thats pretty small and we use to have a guy who parked like that. So to be a dick I parked right beside the drivers side and was still able to fit in the rest of the space. I guess he had to crawl through the pass side to get in. Good thing is he never took more then 1 spot again. -

Its more to try to minimize door dings on their car than anything else. Cant really blame them, when you have a nice car you dont want some kid in mommy's SUV slamming their door into your nice car.
I tend to park my truck a few empty spots away from everybody else, but its 8 feet wide (thats 7" wider than most trucks) and fitting it into a normal spot just makes it a tight fit for me and whoever is parked on either side of me.
I've had that truck almost 2 years and it doesnt have a single door ding. But I have noticed some paint spots from other people's cars on the edges of my running boards a few times. But they wipe off. Doesnt hurt my running boards but obviously took a paint chip out of their door, they should have been more careful I guess.Comment

My cars reasonably average for GFY, new 335, I park it further away to avoid door dings. I live in an area where you have to have a car to go shopping so luckily there are no roaming kids looking to mess with peoples cars.
I've only parked next to other cars on about 10 occasions, result, a door ding which cost $300. It's worth walking the extra 100 feet.Comment
