I bought 5 of them that were important to what I do. They are not working yet. Two of them are are still for sale, even on the same registrar, even after they confirmed I own it. Go figure. I can not set the DNS for any of them.
Initially, I did not want to buy any, but I will gamble a few hundred dollars for the "just in case" scenario where .com has problems down the road. But if they were put out of business tomorrow, I would gladly lose that money knowing they are gone.Comment

Some registrars don't have a live update at all, I think Godaddy.com gives reliable info. Did you check yours on there already? And I got this reply from ICM support a few hours ago:
"We are preparing the system for General Availability to start soon minutes. Please check your account in about 30 minutes. If the names aren't there, you will likely go to auction for the missing names and will be notified personally by the auctioning company when it will take place."
So if the names are in your ICM account you should be ok.
The reason why they got behind with everything is because they are opportunistic. They wanted to wait with assigning domains till the very last moment hoping they could speculate with them and now they're into trouble and don't have their act together anymore. They gave two deadlines for informing their clients about the status of pre-registrations and both deadlines they didn't make. Promises, promises, nothing but broken promises.Comment

lets just suppose for the argument i was the only one who bought a domain.. everyone else boycotted them because they were smart and not dumb.
what did i lose ? i still have a brandable name. If in worst case scenario icm collapsed ( unlikely as they already have enough regs to make a go of it ) whomever took it over would have to honour the registered domains anyways..hatisblack at yahoo.comComment

I'm against .xxx as much as anyone, $100 per domain is rediculous but last week I was reading a few posts by Stocktrader23 about .xxx and it made me think, I'll see if I can find the post but the point he was making was that people will remember .xxx
So from a branding point of view Smokey is absolutely right, for a short brandable domain it's nothing
