Looks like they're using your google account, storing past searches (even from years and years and years ago), and using them for "recommended videos".

About 6 years ago I made a commercial for Colleen Barrett (the CEO of Southwest Airlines), and did tons of youtube searches for everything they had. Haven't looked for them since.

I just logged on to look at it....and my top 3 "recommended videos" are southwest airlines commercials.

Creepy.

Last year a buddy of mine also showed me a video of a cop shooting himself in the foot.

This was #3 in my recommended videos:

It looks like they're watching/storing your viewing from your cell phone too because I showed someone this on my Android about a week ago.

I think the new youtube homepage looks like cluttered shit. Furthermore, the dark color combinations they chose are terrible.

I hate that in order to stay logged into youtube, you now also have to stayed logged into google. So now they can see what youre searching and associate all of that info with your google and youtube account. I like to keep my google searches private and separate from my youtube account.

you getting closer that what Google is doing with all their properties

tying them closer and closer to their hedge hog principle search...

however look at the design and the principles of that design again

there is a shit load of money available for any tube site who figures this out

btw the average porn tube site is almost 5 years behind the mainstream leaders.

how google shares info between accounts is downright creepy and offensive and thus why they continually fail in the social marketing space. going down this road with youtube will hurt them as well.

google serves suggestions upon analyzing your data.

the latter people find intrusive.

thus why facebook > google.

Do people actually visit youtube like a real site anymore?

My only interaction with youtube is when someone embeds a video or sends me a link. I have to believe most people only interact with youtube the same way I do.

Even when searching for a video, I just use Google instead of the the youtube front page.

I doubt a front page redesign will have much effect for most people who use youtube since most people don't enter youtube via the front page like people do with porn tubes.

On a side note, is anyone noticing that Google in general is becoming a "suggestion" engine more than a search engine, and not it a good way. When you search, it simply spits out what it feels you are "really" looking for not what you actually typed. Now with youtube, it takes some random video you watched a year ago and thinks you want to watch hundreds of similar videos.

Google is really starting to force you to see what they want and it's just so they have an easier job, not really to improve results.

Complete eradication of whatever tenous hold you had over your "private" information, and the free sharing of that information with every social network they can make a penny from?

Youtube has nothing to do with ceating or sharing videos anymore. Its all about aquiring, sharing - err, selling - personal information.

Create a tube designed to suck as much information - willingly or not - out of every visitor to your site, and you won't even need to place ads anymore.

finally someone got it

it a shift from video popularity to subscription popularity

you tube and every other tube site that copied used the video popularity (views/likes/etc) as the ranking algorithm for define weather a video shows up on the front page

now it subscription based.

btw watch the recommended as you click around your subscription there is some cool things happening as you get more and more subscriptions.

this is foundational shift for you tube

There are millions of people who almost exclusively use YT and FB. That is why they're huge.

You clearly haven't integrated your Facebook or Google+ into your YouTube. This is the biggest step YouTube has made in connecting with social networking sites. More features wi be added soon.

The other day I received an email from them saying they were about to close one of my YouTube accounts as it didn't have a Google account associated with it, just Hotmail. This coincided with the redesign
