Two bills that provide much needed tools to help the Department of Justice combat the criminal foreign web sites stealing American jobs and creativity face two tough votes this month.

The PROTECT IP Act which was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee must now overcome a procedural vote before it can go to the Senate floor for an up or down vote. The current schedule calls for this procedural vote to occur on January 24 --- and it requires a vote of 60 Senators to allow it to go to the Senate floor for hoped for passage.

Around the same time we expect the House Judiciary Committee to continue its review and markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act (H.R. 3261). This bill has already garnered a number of changes which have addressed credible concerns voiced by the opposition and narrowed the bill to target the relief we need. These include specifying that the bill targets only foreign websites that are beyond the reach of U.S. law and disallowing a court from issuing any order that would impair the Domain Name System. It does not affect any U.S. sites such as Facebook, Twitter, eBay and YouTube. A complete summary of the Manager?s Amendment can be found here.

We will be reaching out to you this month with ways for your voice to get heard in the halls of Congress as your Senators and Representative consider key legislation to aid our cause.

and how does SOPA deal with American sites that engage in the same kind of piracy?

How do you come to your conclusions?

Can you actually give us the logical process of thought that led you to this conclusion.

I've heard it quoted but never read how it will happen, just that it will.

Mutt, you take them to court. It will make life a bit easier for foreign websites and could be great for Americans distributing pirated content. So those who get their content for free, can now get it from US sites.
