Thomas Jefferson called it 209 years ago.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

-- Thomas Jefferson /Letter to the Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin (1802)

That quote was about a central banking system, another reason our founders were seeking independence. Good quote.

Yeah, the next sentence in the excerpt was

"The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

But of course, in the long run the powers that be failed to listen and now, here we are, ya know?

Thomas Jefferson owned over 600 slaves in his lifetime. This documentary provides insight into Jefferson?s full enslaved community, along with the traumatic dispersal of families prior to and after his death. Sally Hemings and the large Hemings family were part of this group. But the story does not end with them. As this film unfolds, the roles that Jupiter, Burwell Colbert, Isaac Jefferson, Joseph Fossett, and others who lived in bondage on Jefferson?s plantations are revealed by a senior Monticello historian, archaeologists, and historical interpreters on tours of Mulberry Row at Monticello. Thomas Jefferson's slaves were carpenters, blacksmiths, cooks, farm laborers, weavers, coopers, and so much more. Their hands and skills built the beautiful homes at Monticello and Poplar Forest. In addition, their labor provided food, everyday comforts, and sources of income for the Jefferson family.

Obviously slavery was and is wrong, but they did what they did back then and it was condoned. Just because the guy owned slaves doesn't mean he wasn't smart or was an out right bad person, it's just the way things were back then.

Besides that, it was often other black tribes in Africa whom captured members of other tribes and sold them to the slave traders. Not to mention they often had their own slaves, when people complain about slavery they never bring that up.

Slavery has been something that has gone on for hundreds if not thousands of years and it was not discriminatory on race. Black, white, brown, yellow have all had or been slaves at some point in history.

GOOD quote but it is a fake quote unfortunately. The real one is: "And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale."

Actually, if you really start studying them, and the history of this country you'll find out that most of them were intelligent assholes. They weren't these benevolent, enlightened class of caring individuals that public school history books like to portray them as. They didn't give a shit about most people. They were oligarchs in their own right.

Oh well. I usually check sources before I post a quote like that and this time I didn't.

Would have thought the source was good because it had it sourced several different ways but snopes and the Jefferson Monticello site says you are correct. First time the quote shows up is in like 1937.

Thanx for catching that, I really hate to be a source of false information
