    Question for Danish and Swedish GFY'ers.

    I watched the TV series "The bridge" last week and I got the impression the Danish detective and the Swedish detective were talking to each other in their own language.

    Do people in Denmark generally understand Swedish?
    Do people in Sweden generally understand Danish?

      I used to work closely with a Swedish guy and he used to mention that their was a great understanding with the two Nations language. Also Norwegians as well.

          Vi forstår hverandre helt greit, avhenging av hvor i landet man befinder seg. Så om du er Dansk, Svensk eller Norsk betyr ikke så mye.

          Det er tilfeller der Svensker ikke forstår Nordmenn, og vise versa, men det er gjerne der det er en Nordlenning mot en Søring - da kan det oppstå problemer.

          Ellers så er vi ganske så like..... Svenskefaen.

              I think it's the same way the Spanish, the French, and the Italians understand each other. Their languages are somewhat similar.

                                          Vi har ju skavlan för fan. A tv talk show with both swedish and norwegian guests. It's run both in Sweden and in Norway. With the host Fredrik Skavlan.

                                          When it comes to danish for me as a Swede. The Swedes generally(I have heard) has a harder time understanding the danish than vice verse. Personally I can have a hard time understanding danish when spoken, as I'm in north Sweden. Swedes in south Sweden seems to understand Danish a lot better when spoken.

                                          Written danish is a lot easier for me, than spoken.

                                          But then again I suck too at languages. I remember like three words from my german language classes in junior high school.
                                          I went from 100 to 313,000 satoshis in 2 days! Lots of daily freerolls...

                                              As a Norwegian I can also say that I understand both swedish and danish without problem.
                                              However, a lot of norwegian struggles to understand danish (as a spoken language, written is almost similar). I am very fond of the danish people, great country, great people, great attitude and cheap and good beer. What's not to love about danes?

                                              Hey, I even learned myself the danish way of counting to 100, which is a bit different from most of us.

                                                      There have been many wars between the Scandinavian countries and people have moved from one country to the other, mixing up the popultions. Denmark have been great for some time, Sweden had almost all of Scandinavia at another and there have been many Kings over these countries and the wars are numerous.

                                                      The countries also have been operating a passport free zone for many, many years. Allowing people to cross borders without bringing their passport and have also allowed people to move and live in each other's countries without much immigrations permissions or so.

                                                      They are all very rich countries, a population with a high percentage with higher education, very low corruption levels and very strict environmental laws making them very clean and safe countries. Helathcare is among the best in the world and life expectancy is among the highest in the world.

                                                      I love flying their airline, SAS, very genuine and nice girls and solid food. Sure, many are more luxurios, but they are very, very genuine.
