They continued to suck in a failing economy. More and more people are signing up, but not as many want to pay over $20 for crappy service. I imagine most people do what I do, and look in the yellow pages for local service at a good price. Especially with broadband.

I was referring to the market as a whole. More competition, less investors, lower prices, assets losing value, etc.

nothing lasts man, there are plenty that use AOL, but more are getting cable modems....

Feel the power of the cable modem, Much more reliable than DSL of any flavor here in Philly burbs. Only thing that beats the cable is when surfing out of the ISP pop on a FastE into my linksys in the colo....thats the SHIZZZZAT

It's a 1990's-era dot com business that was able to survive past the bust because they were catering to people who bought into the hype and had no clue how to access the Internet without it. These days the flow has dropped off somewhat, and the millions that are left are starting to realize that paying a premium for additional ads and gardening chatrooms isn't worth it.

Half of it was readjusting the price of their assets I believe, most of it was a paper loss.

I still don't understand that deal, how the hell does an established media giant like time warner get bought out by a shity company like AOL? They were build on spamming our mailboxes for shit's sake.

Cause they do biz the old fashioned way. Fancy offices, loads of wasteful perks to execs, excess staff, etc. etc.

Most of these big companies simply don't have the ability to run a lean and mean company like so many of us do.
