Look what I just got.
I linked some toons on their site in the 'Fly Contest' thread, including a link TO their site inviting others to check out their cool toons, and they send me this. ----------------------------------------------- Subj: Copyright Violation Date: 2/3/2003 12:12:33 AM Eastern Standard Time From: Jeff Rich <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>, <[email protected]> Sent from the Internet (Details) A user "Fletch XXX" has been posting copyrighted images on your internet domain. Any posting or linking of content on our servers jokemonster.com or mydailyfortune.com is illegal and we will take action against your ISP, your site and this individual user if all links to our content are not taken down in the next 24 hours. Civil action in America - Civil Action No. C-95-20091, slip op. (N.D. Cal. Sept. 22, 1995) - has already established that ISP's and content sites are for contributory infringement if they are hosting a web site that has infringed copyright laws. Please confirm that all links to our sites have been deleted and that our copyrighted images have been removed. Use of our copyrighted images can carry a maximum penalty of $10,000 per image and we will seek those damages plus court fees. Initial research shows the use of 8 images on your site. As per the DMCA (see http://www.educause.edu/issues/dmca.html)... if you take down the infringing content upon being warned you will not be held liable.
