Locating a song, please help!!

OK, so there is a song I estimate to be about 40 years old that I am trying desperately to locate. It was playing at my grocery store sound system several months back and the chorus keeps popping back into my mind and I NEED THIS on my iTunes.

I have no clue who the artist is, the exact year it came out, the name of the song... nuthin

All I know is it starts with trumpets playing a bouncy and catchy opening... it has a jazzy yet soulful and r&b feel and the background singers sing "yeah, yeah... yeah, yeah. Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah." Followed by the uppity trumpets again.

At first I thought it might be The Grass Roots, but it's not. I even sang the trumpet part into the phone app that can locate songs, but no dice. Google searches are turning up nothing as well. Fuck... I'm at a point where if one of you old timers has a clue what I'm talking about, to call me and let me sing the damn opening part of the song to you in case you might be able to help LOL.

Is it more jazzy or more Motown?

Do you have any idea what any of the lyrics are at any point in the song?

If the store uses Muzak, it's likely their music comes to them on disc along with a playlist. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yeah I know I'm giving you guys very little to go on, sorry.

The song is definitely Motown but it is very horn/trumpet heavy. I'd put the song somewhere around 1970. My store has a wicked awesome playlist. Lots of obscure songs from popular artists as well as forgotten classics.

Unfortunately the lyrics are really at the tip of my tongue. I just know how the opening trumpet part goes...

Man I feel like Al Bundy in that Married with Children episode...

"yeah, yeah... yeah, yeah. Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah" and trumpets were pretty popular back then, but I honestly can not recall a Motown song with that refrain.

Male or female singers?

If you have a piano handy or an app at the ready... the opening trumpets start out:

C E-E D, C-C E-E D, E G-G F, E-E G-G F...

Then the Yeah yeah part is just background during the chorus... F F, F E, F F, F E...

The tempo of the song I'm thinking is considerably faster...

Fast Motown with trumpets and yeah, yeah, yeah . . . . hmmm . . . . wondering if it isn't an English band with R&B leanings. Can't wait to hear what song it is.

Is there actual singing in it or is it mostly instrumental?

I'm looking up various John Mayall tracks, he had quite a few with trumpets and similar to motown.

But can't seem to find anything.

For some reason every time I go grocery shopping this song is playing. My supermarket has about the worst fucking playlist you could imagine.

I would not have guessed the artist in this instance (and Jay, you can't carry a tune in a GFY post bucket, LOL), however I am an undisputed Trivial Pursuits champ when it comes to music trivia.

For anyone familiar with College Bowl, I was on my University's team for a few years, specializing in History, Geography, Politics, Pop Culture, and Music (yeah, I was a hippie geek political activist musician in college). College Bowl teams are usually made up of people with complimentary specialized knowledge areas, (i.e., I was definitely NOT the math or science guy).

great song - one of those songs i've heard many times and never knew the name or artist who recorded it. i think that song has been on movie soundtracks. not sure where else i'd have heard it. i'm old but not that old.
