What are wires fees from Canada to USA?

What are wires fees from Canada to USA?

I gotta feeling I just got screwed on hidden fees that I thought was covered by my initial fee.

Usually around $30 to send a wire from Canada to the USA. The incoming bank will charge a fee also. It varies from bank to bank. I get charged $8 (I think) to receive a wire but i've heard of people being charged up to $30.

It really depends on your bank. They're pretty much free to charge you whatever they want. I've always paid $30, but then again I've always used only the one bank in Canada.

In Costa Rica, I think I pay $35 to send a wire to the US.

Are you sure you're looking at just the wire fee, or did you have you convert CAD to US before sending? Maybe there's exchange in there too?

Sometimes the receiver has to pay a fee ( taken out of the amount) Did the bank ask if you wished to pay both sender and receiver fees.

Maybe you paid all fees for both parties?

The affiliate is charging me 30 for the wire from Canada to USA.

Every time I get a wire it is coming up 18 dollars short.

This wasn't the case at the beginning of the year. The affiliate switched banks and these hidden fees were taking out of my pay.

I've never once been offered that option. Seems unlikely that my bank could possible know what the receiver fees for every other bank is. Especially since it can vary depending on what type of account the receiver has.

Have you changed your bank account at all? Different bank? Different type of account? Different type of account plan?

For instance, my Canadian account has a higher service charge than my girlfriend's each month but includes more extras like a lower fee to receive incoming wires.

It's possible that there are different fees associated with different wiring routes too.

Probably just best to ask your bank.

I dont send many but The Scotia Bank (Montreal) always ask me if I wish to pay both sets of fees , cant remember the last fee they charged due to fact it was some time ago since I last used the service.

Regarding the receiver fee I assumed it was a type of fixed percentage bank to bank charge due to the fact the cashier would look something up in a manual before telling me the cost.

I guess each bank has different ways of operating.

I still have the same bank account for like 20 years. I did ask my bank and the fees are not on their end.

The paper work from the wires shows when the affiliate program change bank the fees started.

Should have I been informed about this change through the affiliate?

They may not even know. Have you asked the sender if they're still charging you $30 or if they've upped the fee?

Could be as the other poster said too, that they used to cover your fees and no don't or can't.

The sender affiliate program still charges me 30.00.

I just should have been informed that an extra 18.00 was taken out.

The standard fee is approx. 30 bucks and its variable. I have seen it go as high as 35 and change. Most affiliate programs round to $30. In your case there is an intermediary bank and that bank is JP Morgan Chase. JP Morgan chase is taking $18.00 to act as the intermediary. If you dont believe me call JP Morgan Chase up and ask them what their intermediary bank fee is for international wires from Canada.

There is nothing the people sending you the money can do about the $18.00 fee as the funds are being deducted by a US bank, on US soil, after the funds have left the Canadian bank the and sender no longer has a say in what happens to said funds. The deduction is not taking place w/in the border of Canada.

Hope that helps.

There are no crooks in this situation, just a fee that was hidden or not disclosed.

When the affiliate switched from TD Bank(Toronto Dominion Bank) to RBC(Royal Bank of Canada) in April of 2011 is when the extra 18.00 started.

TD Bank uses Bank of America as sender aka "intermediary bank" that either had no fees or has fees that the sender covered.

RBC uses JB Morgan as sender aka "intermediary bank" that has an 18.00 fee that the affiliate may or may not be aware of or had the option to cover the fee.

Does this get disclosed by a representative from the bank? Oh, by the way there is an extra 18.00 that your "receiver" is gonna get charged.

Chase may have just raised their fees. We're in the process of leaving Chase and switching to a credit union due to new fees.
