You need SMS billing because it is the one way these people pay, credit cards are not too common around there. The one way they have to pay for stuff online is through their phone and they are used to texting numbers to make online purchases if that makes any sense. The traffic takes a little extra work to convert but it can certainly be monetized.

at least in CZ almost everyone has a creditcard cause thats what they get with their bank account. but often they are not activated for online purchases which usually needs to be done separately

Unfortunately that's the sad true, my friend.
People here in my country still are aware of buying products on-line, using CC. The use of CC is only to get a loan from banks to buy technique or another kind of home supply.
It was a pain in the ass for me to get a paypal working with the local bank account in here.
There are some people I know who use CC for transactions to buy some stuff from some on-line shops but mostly to shop from e-bay - for the better price of products. Small groups are those who knows what paypal is and how to use it. I've heard about paxum, moneybookers and other stuff just recently 1 and half year ago, and I read a lot of complaining threads about some of them.
If they don't see the cash - something fishy is going on here. And they are right from their point of view due to the boom of frauds. People uses SMS option for any kind of operations - to pay for online service, to pay for a parking slot, to buy from e-bay - all these goes with their phone bills, and it's the easy thing to use for moment.
Me personally - I'm dreaming of e-government, with less bureaucracy - less old aunties sitting on chairs, farting and looking dumb when you ask them simple question about things they should be proficient with. So some of the things here are not 2000 but more like 1980.... About other payment options - once I've used Western Union to pay 100 to a taiwanese girl for a service she did to me. And it was pretty cool.

our members prefer the sms billing, i guess because they can buy $1 worh credits.. most of them bu $4 worh, with one load.. the smallest CC credit package is $5 worh, and we give 100% bonus on creditcard purchases, still its a very slow process to change ppls minds

You are right, that is the reason we are using SMS billing in these countries. We have launched native language sites for 23 European countries, all of them are with SMS bill.

- it's not what you think - if you think what I started to think that you guys might be thinking -not that I did not thought a lot about it, but it's not - she was trader and did some research of the local markets and the $100 were a part of her commission.....it was time ago.
The "pretty cool thing" was the use of WU - because the employees there were kind and helpful. Nothing on sexual basis. I'm out.

Now that's 1985's.
There's no deficit of products anymore - like in 1985 - there was a time when we were waiting in lines for pound of bananas /only at winter time/, jeans were cool - but not everyone should posses these. Nowadays On shops and markets we can buy many products, as long as you have to money to get them - I'm aware that guys from UK are coming along to buy new cars from saloons - for example /the prices are not exact or real , but this should give the idea:
Ford saloon - in UK, or another West European country Ford Fiest may cost something like : £13995 - but due to the "different" standard of life in here a new Ford Fiesta costs 8 000 euros. So the guys from UK are coming here and paying for the car they want - the same quality, same standard, just different price. Something like a reverse marketing - if they are about to re-sell it for a profit.

We have plenty of jeans and we don't drink vodka like russians do. We drink rakia - home prepared and served with good wishes. But we don't trust the on-line shopping yet.

Are you trying to monetize web or mobile traffic... I know these come hand in hand but there are factors to consider. What type of product is bringing this traffic to you? What percentage of this traffic is mobile vs traditional web traffic?

"local custom based pages with home content" will work and SMS billing can be implemented for both types of traffic but knowing what to spend your time on first is the most important step.
