I use Newegg, Frys, and Microcenter (if you have one near by they have Intel i5 2500ks on sale for $179.99) to put together my builds

depending on where you live do a search for local computer part wholesale places. There are several small shops in my area that sell stuff for about the same price or less than I can get on newegg or ebay and I don't have to pay shipping or wait for it.

Tigerdirect.and newegg for desktops. Ebay can be great too - sometimes a 90% discount, if you spend time shopping.

If you happen to have a Fry's store nearby you're in luck. I often stop at Fry's on the way to or from the datacenter.

Those are for commodity PC parts. For bullet proof machines like servers, we use some other sources.

I have i5, but if you were custom building, wouldn't it be a better idea to spend that little more & get an i7?

When you purchase i7 readymade, it's lots loads more in money as they come with so much other stuff... but just to increase the processor, I would have thought it best?

I'd say NewEgg.com is the best, HOWEVER, they're not always the cheapest. I built my list there, then used Amazon.com to price check and found a couple of things cheaper there.

i built mine with parts from ncix.com, newegg.com, and amazon.com

ncix.com does price match, you give the url for the product and they will match it.

Yes, but you are fucking stupid and buy your 100 quid PCs from ebay whilst rendering video on a entry level budget graphics card.

Think on't.

How's that 50mm lens working out for you? Couldn't you afford the L-Series one?

You're right, I'm just used to overclocking so I figured if he did it's a great value to pick up an i5 2500k...these things easily overclock to 4.0-4.5GHz and for $180 it's hard to beat.

I've had the same shop up the road from me build all my computers for the last 11 or 12 years. Never had a problem.

I prefer face to face support over phone and email support.

Is it easy to overclock?

I've got my laptop that I use for everyday use, I wouldn't want to touch this... The pc's in the studio I wouldn't want to touch neither, but I use a quality pc & a mac for editing...

If I knew how to overclock the mac & my main studio pc I would, I like to get the film editing done as quickly as possible

If you are looking for a higher quality build than regular consumer quality parts, then I would personally recommend these guys ...
