It seems like absolutely every children's home in the UK was used and run by child abusers, many of whom were famous and well connected -- celebrities, police, judges and politicians -- which is presumably how they got away with it.
That and the fact that most people, naturally, don't like to hear about it, or find it unbelievable that people can behave like that.Comment

I actually met him on few occasions...
No really, I'm NOT lying... When I was 14 / 15 in about 1983, I used to hang out at a local holiday camp, called 'Devon Valley' because it was always a good source of 'un-local girls' to chat up and get off with...
Jimmy had a 'sponsored' caravan there, where most of the year, he sent disabled children for free, to have a break, but a couple of times a year, he used it himself...
Thats when I met him. He was weird... There was something about him, that back then, I couldn't put my finger on...

I guess nobody read his autobiography in 1974, where, unbelievably, he not only openly admits what he was doing, since the 1950s, but that the police were involved too:
[Savile] writes of an incident at the Mecca Locarno ballroom in Leeds, where he worked as a DJ during the 1950s, when a female police officer came in with a photograph of “an attractive girl who had run away from a remand home”.
Savile writes: “‘Ah,’ says I all serious, ‘if she comes in I’ll bring her back tomorrow but I’ll keep her all night first as my reward’.” He then writes that the girl did go into the club and “agreed that I hand her over if she could stay at the dance, [and] come home with me”. He wrote that he did then hand her over to the “lady of the law…[who] was dissuaded from bringing charges against me by her colleagues, for it was well known that were I to go I would probably take half the station with me”.

The Carawagon conversion enabled Sir Jimmy to live in his Range Rover while travelling between charity fundraising trips.
Carawagon conversions were usually on Land Rover 109s, and were most popular in the '70s and early '80s, made by a company called Searle of Sunbury-on-Thames (later Carawagon International). They were approved by Land Rover, and turned the 109 into an all-conquering caravan; a fleet was ordered by the Army for use in the heat of battle.
A handful of Range Rovers were also converted, though nowhere near as many of these were made as 109s.
Ordered new in 1978, Sir Jimmy's Range Rover features a wash basin between the front seats and rear curtains for privacy.

One thing I did get from the Panorama documentary, is how fine the line is between management-speak and outright bullshit.
Perhaps many "media lies" are not the stuff of conspiracy theory, but simply the result of a managerial culture having to constantly shift and fudge. Somebody like George Entwistle (Director General) probably thinks he's a good man and doesn't realise how out of touch with the truth he is, because it's so embedded into the culture of his workplace.Comment
