Disney Vacation Club

Anyone invested in this? If so, does your family love it??

It looks like some sort of timeshare more a less.

Never heard of it until now. Looks pretty pedotastic...

Also looks to be nothing more than a season pass + hotel.

If you seek to stay on property, willing to go nearly every year, and plan to visit the parks, the vacation club is a great deal.

However, imho, it's NOT an investment - it's basically more akin to what alextokyo described.

There are dues (billed in monthly installments from what I recall) that run around $500-$1000 annually depending on number of points purchased. Vacation club ownership interest is time limited to around 15 to 40 years (it's transferable so one can often get some of their money back if they later tire of it / need cash) - then poof it's gone! Park tickets are not included, but are discounted / promos (extra days, etc) for vacation club members.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

I was more curious if anyone had done it. I do not have children, but they seem to have a lot of resorts all around the world. I was thinking between the Disney quality and different locations, it may be of some interest.

I've both read, and heard, a lot of bad stories in regards to timeshares. However, I do not have any first hand experience, and thought perhaps others did on the forum.

This is exactly what it is. And timeshares wouldn't get sold if they weren't a better deal for the seller than the buyer.

Indeed.

The GF loves Disney, and thinks that something like this would be cool. I guess she has been to Disneyworld (on average) once a year since she was 3. Some years should would go more than once, while other years not at all, but typically at least once per year since I've known her.

She thinks that the "Disney Experience" while traveling around the world would be cool.

It is timeshare. You buy points. Myself and a number of my family members own.

We bought it before we had kids, so our points get us 1 week each year in a 1 bedroom at the new Bay Lake Tower at Contemporary Resort.

I also have a timeshare with Westgate and my girlfriend has one with her parents through a company called Silverleaf. They all use RCI for management and we're able to trade those in for more Disney points.

We like it. But my father's entire family are Disney freaks. I go there twice a year, at least. Just got back last week. Had surgery during the trip and still managed to drag my ass out of bed and into the parks for some good eating...which is always my favorite part They don't cut you and sort of discount for being a VC owner in that department.

If you're not a Disney person and don't plan to vacation there at least once a year, I wouldn't recommend it. If you're like my entire family, it doesn't make sense to do it any other way.

My brother has a vacation package with them and its well worth it. 2 kids and plenty of places to stay and things to do. Plenty of Euro places and even cruises.

I almost bought a time share when I was at Disney. It was not in Disney just outside of it. $14k and I get a week in a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite for the rest of my life and I can pass it on. There is a maintenance fee of $400 a year. Plus the option of another week in a 2 bed/bath for another $300 each time I use it.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. But I always figure there is some sort of scam involved

I have a friend who has been a member for years. She trades for all sorts of things, as they have a wide variety of properties plus the cruise ships.

They have lots of properties other than the parks.

It works for her.

That's why I would even consider it.

While the GF has kids, and there are extended family as well on her side (all Disney fanatics), I would just as leave NOT go to the parks every year. I have been three times in 5 years.... twice to World, and once to Land, and I can say I do not need to even go that often.

If you mixed in some variety, then it may be worth it to see other places. Especially some of their international locations or countries.

When you realize how much else they have to do beyond the theme parks, you will enjoy the place a lot more.

Before we had kids, we went last minute at Christmas and did a program they had that put us in a kitchen with a chef learning to cook for three days. We did that and spent a few days in the park. I can't wait to do that sort of trip again. Kids rule at this point.

We thought about this a long time ago but passed. There's no money to be saved even if you have family. Plus if you're single or just a couple, you're stuck staying in a super sanitized environment. If you like to travel you would probably want a little more variety too.

Also: While Tracy and I were being sold on this, the salesman dropped his price from $20,000 to $5,000 in a matter of 5 minutes. That might give you an idea of the real value.

We go to Disney every year too, except we do it on our terms, rent a car, and stay in a different hotel each time, usually coming under what the yearly maintenance fee would be.
