Health Insurance question... Kaiser Permanente HMO vs Cigna PPO?

I'm wondering if anyone got any experiences with Kaiser ? I currently have Cigna but considering switching to Kaiser.

Cigna appears to be such a hassle for everything

I have been with Kaiser a very long time. They are really great. They are a non profit as well.

Kaiser is great. If you're close to one of their medical centers that do everything, you're golden and will rarely need to leave that single building for all of your routine healthcare needs.

I've also had Cigna and they were great.

As for HMO or PPO, it really comes down to how sick you are.

For someone like me with Crohn's Disease, the 20% co-insurance quickly adds up and HMO is always better. If you rarely ever get sick then PPO may be your best bet.

I have never had Cigna so I have no comment on them, but my mom had Kaiser for a while. The old saying is Kaiser is great so long as you don't get too sick. She loved it for years. Cheap doctor visits, cheap meds etc. Then she got ill and had all kinds of issues. The first doctor sent her to a specialist, but since she wasn't "urgent" enough it was a 3 week wait even though she was in pain. At least they did give her pain meds, but because of them she couldn't work. The specialist decided she needed surgery. It took almost another month to get through the red tape and get it approved and scheduled. The day of the surgery the doctor doing the surgery examined her and changed his mind. He wanted to try a different course of action first. She tried that, it didn't work and we waited another two months for the surgery. Finally she got the surgery and everything went fine. So in the end she got what she needed, but they could have done things a hell of a lot better.

Thanks for the input, I figured HMO was better than PPO if you rarely get sick since it seems to be cheaper.

Thanks, would be interesting to hear if that's the same with cigna... in general I'm guessing there is not that much differences whenever someone else picks up the final bill. Cigna appears to be very aaggressive contesting every single bill they get in
