I just learned that the father of my best friend and partner is in hospital in a very bad condition :-(

He had a surgery few hours ago in head because of something I don't know how to say it in english and the chances to live are very few. It happened all of sudden. My friend called me few min ago and he sounded so bad.... I dont think Ill go to him now cause I'm not good on these things. I feel also awful and most probably I'll cause him more pain than good. I lost my own father five years ago almost same date..... I remember I wanted to be alone when I was in his situation.

I'm sorry to hear that. I dont know what to say in these situations either.

Did he say he wanted to be alone? If not maybe you could visit him, even if youre feeling awful, he mibht want someone to talk to and you can just be there to listen.

If he called you, he's asking for your support. Whatever you are afraid you might say or do wrong is not going to be worse than not being there for a friend who needs you,

sorry about your friend's dad, but he's still alive maybe he will pull through.

just let your friend talk, nothing you can do for him but listen or if he's one of those types who won't mind you trying to cheer him up talk about other things to keep his mind off it.

Just be a friend. I missed my mother's passing because I felt it was too hard to bear and I wasn't capable of handling it properly at the time. Of all the things I've regretted, that has weighed on me the most.
